Yeah crazy to think he was by consensus our best player as recently as the season before last. Even with the injuries he’s been an excellent servant and incredible value for money.

The perfect Sheaf replacement imo

I think I’d rather rely on Eccles as the Sheaf replacement for the next 19 games than overpay for a CM at the last minute. There are other areas in greater need of investment.

£6.5 million on a player who doesn’t weaken the first XI by leaving is a good deal, even if you have to muddle through the next 19 league games before signing a replacement. Hard to say with much certainty how many of those games he’d have even featured in.
