    Chants of old...And new

Yes, it’s strange to think that when some of us were growing up in the 60’s, a lot of people around us would have had clear memories of the First World War, including troop songs. Indeed, many of the ‘older’ men (as we thought of them) would have fought in the trenches. I wish I had the interest...

    Today is very special

My Grandad used to say things like that when I was a kid. I’d say to him (this was the mid sixties) ‘do you fancy coming up to see the City this weekend?’ and he’d reply ‘why would I do that? They didn’t come and see me when I was bad!’ On Saturday morning, he would say ‘come on then, let’s get...

    Chants of old...And new

Thanks Oscillatewidly and LSB. Amazing where the tune and the words came from. Makes you think that it was a very old take off of the song from the film, and we were still singing it in the late 60’s. Fascinating - l may have seen the film years ago, full of old English character actors? I’ll...

    Chants of old...And new

Oh, and the last line was, for some reason or other, ‘Inky pinky parlez vous’ Suppose it just finished the verse off.

    Chants of old...And new

Dougan’s on the Western Front, parlez vous, Repeat Dougan’s on the Western Front, give us a gun and I’ll shoot the (you can guess!) Sung at Wolves games (our big rivals) in the 60’s.

That’s been sung a few times, it’s pretty rubbish really.

    Chants of old...And new

You’re right, it was West End Aggro, I’ve heard it sang ‘ Matt Busby said to Bill Shankley’

    33 years ago today

I drove up to Hillsborough without a ticket. Walked into the ticket office just as a Cov fan walked in trying to give in a spare ticket. Timing! At the final whistle a really attractive woman behind me gave me a massive hug. It was a very emotional day, knowing our team were going to Wembley. I...

    First ever CCFC memories ?

I never realised it was that Peter Taylor - interesting. My first game 25 March 1963, against Sunderland, FA Cup 5th round, under lights. We won 2-1, Curtis and Bruck. Attendance given as just over 40,000, but thought to be nearer 50,000, as a gate was broken down and thousands streamed in. Went...

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

I think Doris would have screwed things up big style, but he’s now got the best excuse in the world when the economy tanks. I think he’s bomb proof now - 10 more years....

    Solutions to complete the Season

A positive UEFA meeting today, putting back EURO 2020, with the specific aim of enabling domestic leagues to be completed. And Championship teams met and unanimously agreed that the league should be completed.

    Zain Westbrooke in demand

In my view, we miss him when he doesn’t play. He retains the ball better than anyone else, which enables us to control the game from midfield. He seems to have become a more integral part of Robins’ thinking in the last month or so.

    David Thompson

You’re right, I was at the game, Arsenal were so much the better team, and Owen scored two late goals. Daylight robbery, I’m not an Arsenal fan, but it was a sickener to see.

Listen To Me Just Hear Me Out

I think that today’s performance was really concerning. We started very slowly but then got into the game, and were in control for 30 minutes or so, during which time we scored an excellent goal, but I can’t remember us creating any chances during that period of dominance. Just before half time...

If we win the replay, who do we want ?

Agree with this. Try to win every game we play, and yes, never forget the greatest day in our history. There are enough Managers, Administrators and fans out there disrespecting the FA Cup. For me, I always want to be in the draw for the next round. Just a shame that our draws in recent seasons...

    Championship Potential

I agree, I think we would struggle big style with our current squad. Obviously, I would like us to be promoted, but it would be a massive task for us to survive.
