    I see your point about political motivation, but maybe we should be expecting 16 year olds to be more involved in the world around them, and they have a responsibility to take part in society.

    That would indeed be true. I don’t think you should have an upper cap FWIW, but it’s not reasonable to suggest that lowering the voting age by 2 years is going to turn us into some kind of rogue state.

    I think it’s a good idea, and I’m not sure it’s any more controversial than capping the voting age at something like 75. At the very least they have a say in the country they have to live their adults lives in.

    I’m not pretending it isn’t safe. But seeing as we take a tiny proportion compared to Europe then maybe those that get us have done so for other reasons like family connections and support networks.

    We were involved in Afghanistan until recently, we sell a large amount of weapons into the Middle East too. All of which has displaced a large amount of people.

    Furthermore as a country we choose to support/engage in military action across the globe. Whether you support or oppose this position is one thing, but we should be accepting of the fact that people will be displaced as a result, and we have a moral responsibility to provide shelter for them.
