Match Thread Coventry City - Norwich City Match Thread - Saturday 31st Aug

Bidwell was tucked in, are we sure that wasn't Wright's man? Regardless, we're so slow building it's torturous. The endless cutting back inside from wide positions kills me, no one except Wright wants to drive into the box, it feels like. Simms looks like he's running in diving boots half the...

Match Thread Bristol City (A) 24th August 12:30 KO

Jeez, happy-clappers vs bedwetters. There's nowt like a disparaging label to replace sensible debate. I'm not seeing much in the way of "attacks" here mate, just some differences in opinion. If you've got a point, then make it. If you don't like it being challenged, then maybe this forum...

Anybody actually play in a team?

Played Sunday League at a very low level for very long time. Still play five (approx) -a-side with many of the same lads, almost forty years on since we started as a regular kick about. I'm even slower now, but the benefit of never being that good, means that I haven't got much worse. 😄 I love...

    Oxford player ratings

Funnily enough, Simms was starting to get on my nerves in the second half, because I thought he wasn't really putting in the effort. I suspect part of that is because we weren't getting him the ball, and part of it is that when you start looking for bad things in players, you can over focus on...

Match Thread Coventry City - Oxford Utd - Match Thread - Friday 16th Aug 8pm KO

Well, we were doing alright until you got here mate! 😁 Going forward, some tidy stuff, until we take our foot off the gas. Defensively, bit shaky when they break quickly, imho. Could end 5-4 this.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Every job is a piece of piss, except mine, seems to be the theme here. If it's so straightforward, why does it take 18-24 months' worth of training to become a train driver. Why aren't we all applying to do it? I'm guessing one reason is that it's actually fairly technical, and the other is...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Indeed, so you'll be supporting substantial wage rises across the NHS and care sector then, I presume? Or are you one of those people that stood outside loudly banging the saucepan, and then went inside and quietly voted Tory? 😁

    Israel - Palestinian Conflict

You mean the territory that is still considered as illegally occupied by Israel, those Golan heights? Regardless, if you're trying to make some kind of historical justification for the ongoing genocide in Gaza, well you're just dead wrong I'm afraid. It's sickening, and should be called out...

    USSR invades Ukraine.

Bit of both really. Putin needed ammunition (esp artillery), North Korea needs... well everything really, but petrol, food, and technology is what Russia is likely providing. North Korean troops in Europe though, not sure about that. I suspect the glorious leader, Kim, would worry about them...

Match Thread Stoke away 10th August 12:30 - Opening day!

Yep. I'd settle for a niggly, tough-tackling, midfield destroyer type. Doesn't need to be silky, just break it up and pass it ten yards to someone in blue. The Doyle/McGrath type of player. There's no shortage of class in this team, but we seem a bit short of bite and spite.

This might just be the stroke of tactical genius we've been waiting for. 😁

    Bidwell appreciation

Yep, as above really, didn't quite click with EMC. I think the bigger problems were elsewhere. Just mho, obviously.

    Bidwell appreciation

Personally, I thought Bidwell did ok today. He does at least look to cross when he gets in decent positions, and he gets properly stuck in. The goal was a defensive car crash; no cover from midfield and gaps all over the place. No one covered themselves in glory there, so to pin it on Bidwell...

Slightly deflating, that. No support for Simms, no hint of a press, no control in midfield. Plenty for Robins to work on here.

I went out for a quiet pint last night and ended up sat at a table with two Leicester fans, LastGarrison and Nick. 😁
