Sunderland in League 1 in 2026

Nothing is a given in this league and Sunderland are more than capable of beating Sheff Utd. On the day anything can happen and anyone can beat anyone

Released Players or Made Available for Transfer

Disagree. Thomas would be a better fit. Make the dream happen. Bobby - Charlton. 🤞

Released Players or Made Available for Transfer

    Yeah, would make perfect sense

Released Players or Made Available for Transfer

Well, as others have alluded, I think that was based on his performance against Middlesbrough, when he suddenly seemed to look a very decent player. But he then returned to his old self in that Sunderland first leg. I really want to like BTA, but it seems to me that his approach to getting...

Released Players or Made Available for Transfer

I don't think it's wise to lose too many players. Could prove to be very disruptive. Sheaf may well probably want to go anyway. In that scenario, I think it would be wrong to let both Eccles and Allen go too. Up front, we can't really afford to offload 3 strikers (Wright, Simms AND BTA)...

    Lampard

Yes, but he can only work with the tools he's got and he'll always be up against parachute payment teams that have come down. So, to make it to the top 2 would be very difficult. We should definitely be looking at another top 6 place though

    Eccles

He was our best player for quite a spell at the start of the season.

    Pace and Flair

Grrr Just read the thread title and thought we were in for two new players.

    The morning after...

Yeah, I don't get this "perfect set-up" to be honest. Yes, they did set up with the right tactic, but it took an absolutely horror of a back pass in the 88th minute for them to win the game. They set-up for a draw, thinking they might either get lucky, or that they would really fancy their...

    Our choice of captain

    Thomas?

    Eccles

I really hope we keep him. He showed last night what he's capable of and I think that was a very interesting point from Lurker, that maybe Eccles suits playing alongside Grimes more than Sheaf does

    Wright and Simms

Even though they have all underperformed, I can't see how we can possibly get rid of Wright, Simms AND BTA Be a bit of a madness to let three strikers go. We need to keep one at least and the best of the three is Haji Wright

    Wright and Simms

Shouldn't you be on Grindr for that sort of thing?

    All

Merely from a parachute payment angle, it would be better for us for Sheff Utd to go up, wouldn't it? But I can't root for either side.

    Wright and Simms

I'm going to wait and see if FL has anything to say about Wright. Whether he had been carrying an injury etc. Simms hadn't scored since the middle of February, so it could that FL felt he had to play Wright. Wright just hasn't played at all well or much of an impact on games for some time...

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

Saudi Arabia. 🙄 That country of virtue and upstanding. We deal with them too of course. We are so quick to criticise and label some regimes as awful, but the Saudis always appear to be our friends. The world is a very strange place at times.

    Proud of the Team

Yeah, but it's been some time now. How many games since his last decent performance? You definitely expect something like an excellent performance every 3 games or so. How long since he really played well?

    Proud of the Team

Definitely proud. To go up there are totally dominate the game for such long periods, was phenomenal. I am not going to slate any of the players after that performance. Wright, definitely off his game again, but I wonder if he is carrying a knock. Just weird to go so off the boil all of a...

Match Thread Sunderland - Coventry City Match Thread - Tuesday 13th May

Nah. Not having that. Not as a given anyway. I honestly think the score could be anything. An easy win for them, and easy win for us, a 0-0 bore draw, or a 1 nil either way. Obviously if in our favour that means extra time. I don't think it's a forgone conclusion at all that Sunderland will win.
