Do We Have A Serious Rivalry? (1 Viewer)

It's always been Incester for me. I've never seen Cov play Villa

dont we hate SISU / CCC / CT / Wasps

until we stop being our own worst enemy its hard to care about rival clubs

Used to be Leicester for me as I lived in Hinckley for 17 years and worked and mixed with a lot of their fans. It was good to be a City fan then in the 70s and early 80s as we regularly got the better of them and they were a yoyo team at times then. Never really got around to hating them or their fans though.

I agree with what the OP is getting at, that a team`s serious rivals must surely be the ones in their own league at any given time. Remember the words of the Sky Blue Song which started "Proud Posh or Cobblers..." because they were our rivals when it was thought up.

When I was growing up it was Wolves, then Leicester and Villa seemed to come much later.

Hard to be rivals with someone when you don't even play in the same division for years and years and years.

Unfortunately when your shit no one cares about you.

I think the moment we pull Villa, Leicester or any other midlands club's who have been traditional rivals over the years in a cup game we'll all be chomping at the bit for let's face it, a cup upset and not just because it will mean progression in the cup or we just want to see our team win which goes without saying. There will be another dimension to it.

So that rivalry will always be there it's just the opportunity to display it that has diminished.

Think Sunderland hate us more than opposition teams closer to home

I always found it funny that Leicester hated us so much when we couldn't give a shit about them. Then we went down and the tables turned

It was funny that they hated us so passionately and we couldn't give a shit about them.

Growing up it was Villa because them and us were the mainstays in the top flight, then occasionally wolves and Leicester although I appreciate in the 60s + it was wolves.

to be fair, you are partly right. i find it bizarre that i m unable to sit next to someoene else who supports a different team in case we may hurt each other.

I agree. I don't hate anyone and especially not just because they happen to like a different football team.

I don't hate anyone either but I do enjoy the tribal feel of footy and the banter and rivalry. Trouble is a few take it too far.

Ah well, yes I enjoy banter and funny chants. However that's very different to having to post that Villa supporters, for example, are vile on an internet forum far away from the match.

I think Simon is saying that we don't take our lives very seriously as we waste time talking on here.

Who wants to take life seriously? Yes I agree, for me the Villa and Leicester baiting is just a pretence to enhance the experience of being involved and belonging to one club. It's traditional to hate the neighbours right? Bloody French, grrrrr.

Not convinced most leicester fans ever gave much of a shit about us, compared with say derby/forest (except perhaps the ones who live down the m69). Villa even more so, always entirely one-way, they only vaguely entertained it just because there were no other west mids clubs in the top flight for so many years... so no I don't think we do - but don't agree it's anything to do with league position, just geography (bit like Middlesbrough)

I agree no one really gives a shit. Hating other teams is pretty childish.

I only hate some teams because of the behaviour of their fans. Otherwise, can't say I am too bothered.

It's only rivalry when it's mutual.

Otherwise it's just plain hatred.

I'm old enough to remember when Leicester were in the first division and we were in the third - and I don't mean last season.
Any rivalry is a bit artificial as mostly we've been in different divisions
