Messi or Ronaldo? (1 Viewer)

For this week's Cooks Question, we ask the age old question. Who is better? Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? After Messi bagged another 2 records in recent weeks, it got me thinking. I've always thought Ronaldo was better cus he could pull a goal out of his arse if he needed to and I always thought Messi was only getting the goals cus of the likes of Iniesta and Xavi putting it on a plate for him. But im starting to think again. So who do you think is better and why? Also, we still have our Cov Blaze competition this week, so if you wanna win 2 front row tickets for Blaze vs Sheffield Steelers this Saturday (its a 7PM kick off so if you're going the CCFC vs Walsall game you still have plenty of time to get to the Sky Dome). To enter, listen to the show o Thursday and i'll read out the 2 part sports question you need to answer to win the tickets. Once you know the answer, call me in the studio on 02476224761 from 10AM-12 Noon this Thursday. Good luck, thanks for your support and enjoy the show

Tricky question this week. Both are equally brilliant and where talent is concerned there's nowt between them.Messi is a goal machine while Ronaldo is too but a bit more pacy ? But you asked who is better and I'd go for Messi but only just.Tell you what though Aguero is catching up fast on both of them !

Personally I do not think you can choose between them although they are slightly different types of players. Both are the best at what they do.

If I had to choose I would do it not on the basis of what they offer if things are going well for the team but on the basis of what they offer when it isn't. For me the strength and power of Ronaldo offers slightly more on that basis.

But to be honest am very happy to sit back to watch either practice their art.

Ronaldo for me all day long.....the complete player. Great on & off the ball. 2 great feet. Top class in the air. Great set-pieces. Good pace. Excellent engine & work rate.

What really swings it is that I believe he could/would be the best player in any league in the world.....whereas Messi may not shine quite as brightly in the more physical leagues like England & Germany....

I feel the same as you Liam.
Ronaldo edges it because he has done it in England, Spain AND for the International team.
If Messi ever goes to England and scores on a 'cold tuesday night in stoke' then i may change my opinion. :p

Ronaldo has 52 goals in 118 caps (0.44 goals a game)
Messi 45 goals in 96 caps (0.47 goals a game)

Ronaldo has also never performed in a world cup where as Messi dragged his relatively average nation to a world cup final this year, just ran out of steam at the end against one of the best national teams ever assembled.

Both are great players and go through peaks and troughs where one at the current time is better than the other, overall though I think Messi is the better.

Ronaldo for me as he has done it in England as well and could go to Italy and Germany and do the same not sure Messi would that is why he hides in Spain, I find Messi is very protected in Spain and seems to get a huge amount of free kicks and penalties some for nothing.

Both have it fairly easy in Spain as there are only half a dozen teams that seem to try against the big teams and neither would have scoring records like they have in Spain in England.

Messi every time.
Don't get me wrong, Ron is a great player, but he does go down alot, demands yellows from refs, and has big strops.
Messi, on the other hand, just gets up, and gets on with it...no drama.
The added sportsmanship makes him a more rounded player in my opinion.

Interested to know how many people who have commented on here regularly watch La Liga. Not saying people don't just a general question. Anyone who says Ronaldo performs more for country than Messi probably read a blog in about 2009 about it. It just isn't true.
Similarly i think had Messi played in England and Ronaldo had only played in Spain people would be saying Messi is better, the English have an odd trait of not accepting that those who haven't played in England aren't great. Do you think fans in Spain sit there and go 'I bet Paul Scholes couldn't do it on a cold night in Pamplona'. But what about the physicality? Sergio Aguero seems to be handling himself quite well.....
The comment above about Messi getting more penalties may or may not be true i haven't got any facts to prove that but if you just look at how many of Ronaldos goals are scored by penalties you may be very surprised.
Since joining La Liga here are the stats:
Messi
Apps:281
Goals:291
Assists:102
Penalties:32

Ronaldo
Apps:265
Goals:278
Assists:69
Penalties:47

Fairly clear to see who offers the 'team' more in terms of selflessness. We are lucky to see two phenomenal footballers in the same era, but Messi for me will go down as the best that has ever lived, Ronaldo will go down as an all-time great. Ronaldo is a physical beast and works unbelievably hard to be where he is, Messi is a genius touched by God.

Ah yes, because Ronaldo dragged his team to the world cup final and Messi failed to contribute at all and Argentina couldn't make it out of the group stage.

Oh wait...

Messi all day long the better footballer. Ronaldo is superb, but Messi is on another planet

I was always in the Messi camp but i think Ronaldo has surpassed him now....just. They are both amazing players and complete players, you just cannot split them

Ronaldo , personally think if ronaldo played out his whole career in la liga he would be miles ahead of messi in terms of goals .
ronaldo also played in the premiership when it was actually the best league in the world and at its peak , on the wing , which meant he never scored as many as he does now .
messi didnt drag argentina to the wc finals , how could he he was absent pretty much the whole of the knockout stages against ...yes ...physical sides . He scored in the groups v iran nigeria and serbia , to me mascherano was the best argie player at the world cup . Ronaldo is never going too far in this portugal team lets be honest .
overall messi has had it set up for him greatly , played as part of the greatest club side for several years with everything basic ally going theough him up top .
great player but diego maradona was better than both , although i believe both are two of the greatest players of all time
