Coventry City are scrapping the match-day price increase on tickets – starting with this weekend’s game against Bristol City – to make it cheaper to ‘walk-up’ and cheer on Steven Pressley’s side.

The club has also held talks with senior staff at the Ricoh Arena which has resulted in a 50p cut in the price of beer at outlets around the ground.

Chief executive Steve Waggott said: “We are committed to making football more affordable for our supporters and this is a step along that path.

“The match-day price increase had been in place to encourage more supporters to buy in advance but we have taken on board feedback from our fans – through the Supporters’ Consultative Group and other bodies – and we have decided to remove the increase.

“The price of beer was also raised at the most recent SCG meeting and we are pleased to say that, with the agreement of ACL, that it is being reduced by 50p.

“The price of football in general has been in the news this week and, as a club, we are very keen to find ways to make attending our matches more affordable for supporters.

“We’ve done a great deal already. Our Junior Sky Blues who are under-12 can attend for free or sign up for a free Season Ticket in the Family Zone when they are accompanied by an adult, and our adult Season Tickets and match packages dramatically reduce the ‘per-game’ price of watching Steven Pressley’s side.

“But this is an issue we are going to continue to look at because football is about the supporters and should be accessible to as many people as possible.”

Adult tickets in the Family Zone are £18, concessions are £13, juniors are £9, JSBs over-12 are £5 and JSBs under-12 are free.

In the Standard Zone, adult tickets are £22, concessions are £15, juniors are £11, JSBs over-12 are £7 and JSBs under-12 are £3.

For more information or to buy tickets visit ccfcshop.co.uk, go to the CCFC Superstore at the Gallagher Retail Park or call 024 7699 2326.

Tickets will be available on the day of the game from 9:30am at the Ricoh Arena matchday ticket office and from 1:30pm at the cash turnstiles.

50p isn't much is it, but every little helps!

Would they of done it if that BBC article yesterday never came out? I wonder.

Still, it's a welcomed gesture.

I'd read they were planning on dropping the walk up free a couple of weeks ago so I'm sure it had nothing to do with the bbc article and the beer thing sounds like it came from the scg. It's a small but positive change.

£22 for shite League One football is still way too expensive. West Ham, Hull City and Leicester fans all pay less for their cheapest tickets.

Fair play, its these kind of things the club is going to have to keep doing to build up the relationship between fans, but it is a good start. Never understood the walk up charge, lets hope more will start turning up on the day

It is a step in the right direction but adult ticket should be 15-18 pounds, concessions around 11-14 pounds and juniors should be no more than 10 pound....that as standard.

Premium zone should be 20-22 pound adult, concessions 14-18 pounds and juniors as above..

beer should be 2.50 a pint. Until 40 minutes before a game then 3.00

Programmes should be 2.00 or 1.00 by download subscription.

there should be 3 game ticket with a discount on above. Or a fourth game pot luck ticket at a discounted price.

Our merchandise should be proud to be Coventry, it should reflect that in quality and design.

Bring back the traditional Coventry Cap.

Wished they'd reduce the price of hot dogs. I'm not sure how much longer my lad will believe that by law children under 10 aren't allowed to eat hot dogs in a football ground.

To take a line from Dongo, are people really bleating about this? Yeah, tickets to watch football matches are expensive, but it is a step in the right direction.

personally dont think anybody should have to pay more than 18 pound to watch league 1 football , us season ticket holders get the matches for 15 pound in standard zone , saving 161 a season which is 7 matches free. so they can do more certainly in regards to regular prices.
think the price of 22 pound should be for an adult and an under 10 combined

Well done to the club and ACL, never thought id write that

On another part of the statement and my comment is aimed at football in general especially the Premier League, the "football is all about the supporters" sentence is total bollox, it stopped being about the supporters on the creation of the Premier league in 1993.

Its all about the money ,nothing else, I know its our money that they are after, but they care not one jot for the individual fan, they just want our doe and be done with us

Well done all round. Hopefully they won't bring back the matchday increase until we get to a point where we're filling the place and you can push people to buying in advance - if that day ever comes!

its is a step in the right direction,,,but lets face it they had to do something with gates falling and the beer way way overpriced. 4.50 for a 330cl bottleis an absolute rip off and very few are buying.
I suspect the club were reponsible for the price/surchrage hike when we returned to the ricoh as part of them getting match day revenues...it wouldnt be in their power to reduce it if ACL had set the price

in regards to attendances , bradford were averaging 8000 in league 2 , the owners made season tickets 190 pound and they sold 11000 season tickets the following season , price definately makes a big difference to people

There is no requirement to buy a child's ticket if you buy one in the family stand
seems strange they would just let anybody sit in the family stand , im just basing it off what somebody said before that you had to be accompanied by a minor , my apologies

It's one of them rumours that sound valid but aren't. Buy a ticket for the family stand and sit elsewhere. Easy.

Buy a 6 match package (which can be shared between more than one person) and it works out at £17. It has fuck all to do with price for the majority of non-attenders and I wish they would stop pretending it is.

Credit where credit's due - the club do at least seem to be listening and trying on the pricing and other issues.

I watch Newport (IoW) when they're at home. It costs just £6 on the turnstile. (£3 for any OAP old gits like me!). All beverages £1, Chips £1.00, Burgers £2.00. There's a bar but I haven't used it, but I've been told it's really cheap. Okay, so they're only in the Wessex Premier League (which is equivalent to league 9), but it's a great afternoon out! (and they're currently 3rd in the league!)
I need only take £6 which will pay for my ticket, a cuppa, tray of chips and a golden goal ticket!

Off topic Houchen but did'nt Newport IOW try to progress up the league in recent times, I think they got to the Southern premier, did the travelling kill the interest or was the team just crap.
i see the team from Guernsey are doing well with decent crowds, will Newport give it another go ?.

now back to slagging off ACL /SISU /wasps and the council

A sensible move by the club which might make a small difference. For people like me who are no longer interested in a season ticket, it’s good to know that we can make a late decision to go to a game without feeling “ripped off”. After the ludicrous predictions of 20,000 for Yeovil, I think CCFC have realised that it will be a long hard road to win back fans in the kind of numbers we used to have.

That's right Rev, although I've only been on the island since 2010, so I haven't seen them play in the heady heights of the Southern Premier yet! They're a really good team when they want to be - some really good football - but as with all teams at this level, they struggle to put a full first-team together sometimes - this is usually down to work committments and injuries - but as I said earlier, they are doing really well. They finished 4th last season and are currently 4th in the table (think I said 2nd or 3rd earlier, but there's been other games played since I last checked).
Former players include Brendan Rogers (Liverpool manager) and Guy Whittingham (ex-Portsmouth manager).
