Name your best ever CCFC from players you have seen play over the years. For me (41 years old and started going mid 80's) Oggy GK, Dave Phillips RB, Trevor Peake CB, Scott Dann CB, Phil Babb LB, Dave Bennett RM, Gary McAllister CM, David Thompson CM, Peter Ndlovu LM, Kevin Gallagher CF, Dion Dublin CF. Subs Magnus Hedman GK, Robbie Keane, Cyrille Regis, Brian Burrows, Roland Nilson, Aaron Gunnarson.

You would have Aron Gunnarsson in your best ever CCFC team!?

Wouldn't disagree with most of that team to be fair TG and I've been supporting us from the mid-80's as well.

I'd maybe try and get some more midfielders in there (in the squad anyway)...Hadji, Boateng and Stewart Robson would all be there or thereabouts in my opinion.

Just to name one and of course it is only my opinion, but I would have Hadji in your squad anyday over Gunnarsson.

It's all subjective isn't it? My favourite players aren't necessarily the best. I think my favourite players since first going in '72 are Lloyd McGrath and David Thompson. Both gave their absolute all for the shirt. Love 'em!

Always loved Terry Yorath and Steve Hunt too.

Ok here goes:Best attacking line up:-
Oggy, Danny Thomas, Peake, Gillespie, Pearce, Huckerby (?), Willie Carr, McAllister, Tommy Hutch, Dion, Wallace

Will let a shed loads of goals in perhaps, but would look good with the ball.

I did think about Nilsonn - so classy. Just went for Danny Thomas due to how great it was to watch a young player with that much ability - a proper player and a crowd favourite, who would/should have played for England but for his injury. Hunt wasn't too far off either.

Judging by some of the names already, I think it is fair to say that we have had some pretty good players over the years.

Edit - Boateng was top quality , so makes the ever growing bench

Name your best ever CCFC from players you have seen play over the years. For me (41 years old and started going mid 80's) Oggy GK, Dave Phillips RB, Trevor Peake CB, Scott Dann CB, Phil Babb LB, Dave Bennett RM, Gary McAllister CM, David Thompson CM, Peter Ndlovu LM, Kevin Gallagher CF, Dion Dublin CF. Subs Magnus Hedman GK, Robbie Keane, Cyrille Regis, Brian Burrows, Roland Nilson, Aaron Gunnarson.

Phillips at right back surprises me. Always liked Phillips, my favourite player we've had (for no reason than he was the first signing I remember who then went on to do well for us, and he had a good shot!) bbut when Borrows was the regular RB, surprised you'd pick Phillips there ahead of him.

Don't get me wrong I loved Bugsy but Phillips had a football brain and could play as good at Right Mid or in the Centre Mid too. For me at times he just looked comfortable on the ball whereas Bugsy bless him looked like he was legging everywhere for his life and sometimes when he was running down the wing it reminded me of a disney cartoon with all legs and arms!

I'd have Phillips centre midfield myself (kind of ironic he left us for Norwich as he wanted to play there, and they ended up playing him right mid too!) but in terms of solidity, consistency, longeivity don't think you can beat Peake and Borrows in my lifetime at least.

I'll grant you Phillips ended up the archetypal utility player, who maybe wasn't valued as he should have been as a result.

You are right about Peake though, if he had been in a bigger team I reckon he would have won England caps. Jesus, this is weird talking about football.

83 onwards for me

Have left out players like Gibson, Bennett ,Regis ( my dad would kill me if he knew),Robson, Froggatt, Whelan and a player I really liked but can't remember his name was it Chris Marsden who we had on loan from Southampton or Wolves? Plus many others when I look at the players we have had compared to what we have got now! Might be a bit controversial but I actually believe players like Callum Wilson would have been released around the time of the players above as he would have got nowhere near the squad.

First and foremost thank you to the Gentleman, not only for doing a football related thread but also for reigniting memories of a happier footballing world for me.

Now the team, well it is actually quite a difficult one, so I have cheated and had two teams of mix and match

Oggy or Blyth GK
Thomas or Nillson RB
Pearce or Babb (LB)
Gillespie or Breen (CH)
Peake or Dann (CH)
Bennett or Hutchison (RM)
Ndlovu or Froggatt (LM)
McAllister or Speedie (CM)
Boateng or Yorath (CM)
Gallagher or Keane (CF)
Regis or Dublin (CF)

Subs - Too many to mention but Gynn, Borrows, Whelan, Huckerby, Hedman, Chippo, Konjic, etc etc

I am sure I have missed many many good players out as well.....

Nice to think of happier times although that seems to be getting harder and harder. Don't know whether it's age or the shite what's going on but looking at some of the teams fellow CCFC fans have put out it makes me realise that we have had some top players at some time or another.
