:thinking about::thinking about::thinking about::thinking about:Our squad ,which struggled last season is now much much weaker and a great deal smaller,
We have a transfer embargo in place, another points deduction looming (imo) and even the most pro-Sisu fan would have to agree (i hope!) that they have not invested in players of any real quality for a few years now and if they are to build a new stadium its unlikely they will change tack...so I see no way we will challenge for the play-off or automatic promotion....

We may go from having, sorry playing at the best stadium in Div 1 to having the best in Div 3:eek:

1. We didn't really struggle last season
2. In terms of quality we have lost little since the end of the season
3. Valid point about depth, it is a worry and needs to be addressed before the transfer window closes

When is it my turn for the rose coloured glasses?

last seasons squad was actually rather ample for the legaue, just clarkes injury and a 10pt deduction meant that in the last 5 games we gave away points because we had nothing to play for

I honestly think so long as we can get some depth in that a 15 point deduction won't relegate us

It's much much more likely that we will lose significantly more quality before the transfer window closes than we will address our strength in depth problem. If you were baker, cristie, clark etc you'd be nuts not to go if an offer was on the table.

Christie will go...

Not sure Baker or Clarke will, but even if they stay, if the two of them were injured at the same time, then our team very much has a look of relegation about it

You do know that our Centre Backs during a freindly last week were Adam Barton and a 16 year old

Our centre backs were crap last season also, it was a position we needed to strengthen regardless

The centre backs we have lost can be adequately replaced for less wages

not until the embargo is lifted you can't

Look guys, the quality of the team isn't the important thing at the moment.

The loss of our football club is perilously near, lets worry about that.

are you for real

We did though. And from Sep through to beg. Feb we were the best side in the league. And then our owners started fucking about about the rent, we lose our best manager since Sillett, and it has been a slippery ever slope.

Best side in the league that dropped points against dross

I wish people would stop coming up with this hackneyed nonsense. Our most expensive signings have included Freddie Eastwood, Lee Hughes and Craig Bellamy.

If only we could combine their best elements and sign a murderous hunchback gypsy

I was talking about our 'recent' past.......last season for instance....most expensive signing still in our tiny squad???

It's a cliche that doesn't stand up, it means nothing. Leon Clarke was free, Cody McDonald a relatively expensive top target.

True, but also true to say that (at their time) our most expensive signings have included Bill Glazier, Tommy Hutchison, Colin Stein, Terry Yorath, Cyrille Regis, Dion Dublin, Noel Whelan and Robbie Keane.

But were they good signings because of the transfer fee involved, or was it just a case of identifying the right player - something that can and has been done for a lot less (and even no) money?

It's a bit of both.

It's certainly possible to identify the right player without paying a big fee and it's certainly possible to identify the wrong player with a big fee - but on balance, you have to have a better chance of getting good payers if you're in a position to pay "big" fees.

So 'pay peanuts, get monkeys' is basically inaccurate. Just stay away from the monkey enclosure and don't leave Andy Thorn in charge of the bananas.

I'd like to point out to people that we only lost one cb wood, and that's because of his wages, the rest pressley can see can't play a passing game. edge can't and malaga still probably can't speak english

That wasn't my conclusion.

My conclusion was that as with any general rule, there will be exceptions, but the general rule - I think - is valid.

Not restricted to football either. Generally speaking, if you want quality you have to pay for it.

So we all think that this squad can get us promoted out of Div 1, even with an embargo,no investment and a highly possible points deduction then......glad we cleared that one up...

I think if we stay up we will have done well and I'm not confident

We let him go as he clearly wasn't good enough and was clumsy. reminded me of leon barnett. Wouldn't consider it a loss seen as he now plays for bury

The odd defeat by Shrewsbury and Carlisle was more than offset by beating almost every side we played in that period who were above us.

We averaged 2 points per game during that period and then SISU started fucking about again.
