to be pedantic doesn't the jury being out mean they're gone out of the court room to make their judgement

Surely in this analogy the trial has only just started and they're still hearing evidence.

No player should be judged by the value parties independent of the player decided to pay for his registration, it is illogical.

I’m not saying judge him. I’m saying it’s not as simple as “he’s taken Sakamoto’s place”. There’s a few things that mean people will give him less leeway than our other signings.

It might not be as simple but sakamoto is a fans favourite and that will certainly sway opinion

I’ve always taken it to mean “you can’t judge yet” but I accept your pedantry on my pedantry.
 
Think he'd tear it up in The Championship tbf so best not to turn on him too much as we might be needing that :LOL:

Grimes and FTT are fans favourites. Bobby Thomas is a fans favourite. EMC is a fans favourite. The only signings not replacing fans favourites are Rushworth and Awoniyi.

If a player is decent, but cost a fortune, does that not count against value for money?

'They're good, but we over-paid', could be a valid statement.

It an opportunity cost argument right? “He’s good but could we have spent less on a player just as good and had enough to sign a CM/LB/LW?” Which again I think is context working against him. If we didn’t have perceived holes in the squad there would be less scrutiny on the big money signings.

I don't think 'he looks decent enough but Grimes clearly isn't up to The Prem and BTA is terrible' (which i reckon will be a realistic opinion in 10 games or so) should be used against the individual tbh, i think its ridiculous. Moan about how the club spent it for sure, i have my own issues with that honestly.

I mean I’m arguing sat in my Sakamoto t-shirt so I’m going to concede this. I do think though that the reviews from Burnley fans and others who watched him last year are the biggest factor.

Possibly , many admitted that scott parkers defensive style played a part .. and weve been quite slow ponderous and negative first 2 games

Hamer and Sakamoto have actually been good for us of course, Biamou sits more with Ben Wilson where in certain fans minds the ability is about 200x the reality.
 
BTA is the one we should be talking about here and what does he offer. Clearly dodging a bullet due to the hysteria based around signings of 20 million plus. Sherriff will be the one with a target on his back. It is just pathetic really

Again, probably true, but too early for these discussions.

We needed a player of Tchaouna's type in his position. Whether we brought in the right one for the right price is too early to judge, so the thread remains ridiculous this stage.

He’s also 22 and is closing in on 100 top-flight appearances across 3 countries. I like the look of him personally, bit of work to do but you accept that given his age.

BTAs value will never be higher than the summer just gone and in hindsight he should have been moved on. I feel like some of the failure in the market sits with King but this one probably falls on Lampard. BTA was a player he mentioned regularly as deserving a chance. Hopefully he proves everyone wrong but he looks way out of his depth.

And I think he was brought in partly with a more counter-attacking style in mind. It’s just that Arsenal were streets clear of us so difficult to pose a threat, and Hull were so deep you couldn’t counter attack. Man City will likely be the same as Arsenal but then we’ve got a good run of games where we will hopefully see that style come through a bit more and have more success.
 
For £12m we supposedly paid upfront I dont mind him. He looks as if he would be useful at this level, people probably more critical due to the fabrizio price mentioned and the fact we are short elsewhere.

Yeah there's no way we've paid £20M upfront. Part of that probably includes staying up this season, him scoring a certain number of goals, apparences etc.

The trouble is even though £20 million is a lot for us its just a drop in the ocean for most prem teams who spend more than that on development players
