I personally don't think Rushworth is premier league quality, in fact I think there is just as good keepers playing for other championship clubs.
Are these “just as good” keepers playing in the same league as us at the moment? If so, what are their names because I am unaware of them…

There is a chance Brighton don't see Rushworth as their backup even. Their current No 2 has been called up to the England squad. If that's the case you would expect him to hand in a transfer request going on what he has said.

I know Brighton fans who say they very much think he will be their number 1 next season

There’s no way Steel is considered an England keeper. He has been called up as a training goalkeeper, not the same thing as being considered for the number 1 shirt. There are loads of keepers who are much better including Rushworth and Bealdle who are both Brighton players as well. There is not a chance Steel would think of himself as higher up the pecking order than Rushworth. (Before anyone chips in, I am NOT suggesting Rushy and Beadle are equal!! Merely making the point that even just Brighton have 2 better keepers than Steel)

The thing with Brighton is that even though they are now established in the Prem, they don’t have massive commercials so are still in essence a bit of a selling club. Sellling Verbruggen for £35m+ and then having Rushworth would be great business for a club like them. This would likely be the model we would have to adopt unless we get an owner with really really deep pockets.

Nobody hands in transfer requests anymore. Contracts almost always have loyalty bonuses payable when they leave providing they don't hand in an official request.

That's why there is so often a stand off when a player wants to leave but a club doesn't want to see. Club says hand in a request and forfeit your (sometimes) multi million bonus. Player says no but communicate through their agent that they want out.

I personally don't think Rushworth is premier league quality, in fact I think there is just as good keepers playing for other championship clubs. As for £20 million it is too much. Rushworth has been playing for us and is playing in a winning team, but in the premier he will possibly be playing in a losing team, can he handle that. We have all seen how keepers more than any other position suffer with mental health issues and lack of confidence, he is still very young and if we have Dovin and Rushworth they are too simmilar in age and ability. Dovin should be back for next season so we need an experienced keeper. In fact i would possibly spend more money on an experienced international keeper from abroad that can stand the pressure.
Genuine question, have you watched a single game we’ve played this season?

Yes I have seen most but have you read my thread, because you are not listening to what I am saying. Rushworth has been immense for us this season but he is playing in a winning team in the championship. This is not the premier league, he has never played in the premier league and already CCFC fans are saying he is England No.1. He has had a very good season but next season if he joins us and is No.1 he will be under the cosh and could quite easily lose confidence. If we were not promoted he is by far the best option but if he is promoted with us and we sign him I tell you something which is 100% nailed-on, FL will sign an established international or premier league keeper, because in a month of Sundays you cannot rely on Dovin and Rushworth to keep us in the premier league.

Did Sunderland sign an established Prem Keeper this year?

Of course, and your point is? He is playing in a winning team, we would possibly be where we are now if Dovin had been playing. He has played only loans till now, none for Brighton only Div 1 and championship. Unfortunately Dickie you are like so many city fans you wear sky blue glasses and possibly you are young so haven't seen any decent goalkeepers play for us or you only watch CCFC and don't see other teams keepers. The Saints lad, also on loan is just as good as Rushworth. There are many good keepers out there and if we win promotion full foreign-based internationals would be queuing to join us.
Is he the same chap that was getting pelters earlier on in the season?

Watching this Tyne-Wear Derby and what stands out is how every player on the pitch (bar O’Nien) is a serious athlete.

Gordon and Elanga have sprinter level pace. Joelinton, Sadiki, Diarra and Ramsey in centre midfield are all-rounders. Cover so much ground but can pass and carry the ball. Brobbey and Woltemade are massive.

The players struggling to get involved are all the tricky ones: Rigg, Talbi and Barnes.

IMO, we really have to go all out this summer on recruiting athletes. Onyeka needs to be the blueprint otherwise we will risk losing the physical battle every week.

Denkey would be really key as a signing for a forward

Madness. You’ve no idea how good Denkey is. Show reels mean nothing
lol i’ve watched him play and read many scouting reports.

Your view on JDS discounts any opinion you have.

I was the one who suggested Onyeka to Lampard

Gibbo's team for the first game in the Premiership.

There is no choice other than splashing the cash like Forest and Sunderland, otherwise it is just a matter of whether you get more points than Derby did.

Rushworth (or someone of equivalent ability. Get the cheque book out)

MVE (we can do better but other positions are more important; he is losing his star quality which is pace)
Thomas
New
New

New (Grimes super for the Championship but possibly too limited or physical enough for the Prem)
Frank the Tank (the transfer deal is predicated on him being good enough)

Rudoni (assuming he gets back to his best)

New (Love Tats, club legend, just not Prem standard)
New (similar to Grimes. Top at this level, not so sure about Prem)
EMC

Use loans
We've been good in the last two January windows. So do not despair if at first.....

How many times would we pay more than £10m for a player this summer if we went up and what is the maximum we might spend on a single signing do you think ?

I think we will spend more than £10m on 6 occasions abd 2 of those will be circa £20m.

The other factor to consider is the wage structure we would employ in the PL. That will be key to attracting our main targets

Jesus, writing off players already 🙄

it is your opinion, granted, but I’m interested to know what you’ve based your ‘not premiership standard’ comments on considering we’ve never seen any of our team bar Onyeka and Simms actually playing in that league

and also interested to know why you think Grimes isn’t able to play in the Prem and yet Hamer stood out in that Sheff Utd team and Grimes is arguably a better / fitter player

Grimes now isn’t as good as Hamer was when he left.

Wright I think is one who can despite everyone including me having ST down as a definite signing as he’s one of the few of our players to have serious interest from PL clubs recently.

striker would always be on anyone’s list though, it’s the most exciting position but also the most difficult to get right in my opinion…..

I wonder whether Arsenal would be open to letting Vik go on the cheap 😂

Anyone mentioned Jordan James from Leicester, their best player i would of thought, quite a bit of experience for a 21 year old too. And wouldn't it be great to sign their best player.

I think he'd just be a 'meh' signing tbh
