We have to be sensible with the approach. Carry on with the same recruitment drive we have. Young to sell on, with the occasional experienced head.
Putting my football manager 2026 head on and Nathan De Cat for the CM role!

We dont actually do all that much selling on since King arrived, nor do we advertise ourselves as a stepping stone club from i gather. We want players who want to play for CCFC. We have assets we could sell on at a profit, which is obviously good, but I don't think its all we look at.

If we can land Rushworth I'd definitely look at loaning Dovin out to a top end Championship team with demands he is no.1. he's missed a year of development, wouldn't be fair to have him sat on our bench or stick him straight into first team prem football after that much time out of the game. He needs minutes

I agree. If we can’t sign Rushworth - and sadly I don’t think we will - then I’d be tempted to try and get an experienced goalkeeper with PL experience in on loan.

I rate Dovin and if he comes back as the player he was then, with a bit more development time, he could well be our number one for the 2027/28 season, by when we might be back in the Championship anyway. If we do stay up then, with another year of PL money, that could be the time to look at buying another goalkeeper.

A bit of a left-field thought is whether we could get Rushworth in for another season on loan. Brighton could keep Verbruggen for another year - he’s a very good goalkeeper - and let Rushworth prove himself at PL level with us. Brighton would probably want to extend Rushworth’s contract if that happened. This might be more attractive to the clubs than the player and I don’t really see it happening but I guess it’s not totally impossible.

No way they loan him out again. They either sell verbruggen who it appears may want European football, sell rushworth for 20 mil plus or have him as
their own number 1

I refer you to what I said, which was “I don’t really see it happening but I guess it’s not totally impossible”. I also said it’s a left field thought.

As I also said, the attraction for Brighton is that they get to keep Verbruggen while Rushworth proves himself at PL level with us.

I reckon there is about a 5% chance.

I personally don't think Rushworth is premier league quality, in fact I think there is just as good keepers playing for other championship clubs. As for £20 million it is too much. Rushworth has been playing for us and is playing in a winning team, but in the premier he will possibly be playing in a losing team, can he handle that. We have all seen how keepers more than any other position suffer with mental health issues and lack of confidence, he is still very young and if we have Dovin and Rushworth they are too simmilar in age and ability. Dovin should be back for next season so we need an experienced keeper. In fact i would possibly spend more money on an experienced international keeper from abroad that can stand the pressure.

What is the point in having two young keepers in the premier league, if we go up? As I said Rushworth can perform in a winning team but can he do it in the premier where we would be under the cosh? If we had Rushworth we would need a whole back line of defenders because they would not be able to cope.

Would you rather us have a veteran like Dubravka or Rushworth if given the choice.

Of course, and your point is? He is playing in a winning team, we would possibly be where we are now if Dovin had been playing. He has played only loans till now, none for Brighton only Div 1 and championship. Unfortunately Dickie you are like so many city fans you wear sky blue glasses and possibly you are young so haven't seen any decent goalkeepers play for us or you only watch CCFC and don't see other teams keepers. The Saints lad, also on loan is just as good as Rushworth. There are many good keepers out there and if we win promotion full foreign-based internationals would be queuing to join us.

Rushworth is by far the best keeper in this league, he's better than Peretz.

He’s unanimously PotS in the top of the table side and IIRC has prevented more goals than anyone else. This has to be a wind up.

The Southampton keeper is really good but has he not watched the string world class saves Rushworth has made?
He is obsessed with the idea of having an international keeper, a good start to the season in the Prem and Rushworth would be in the England Squad.

Sorry but what?

Rushworth is an excellent prospect and has imo earned us at least 12-15 points this season with some of his saves.

Dovin is a good prospect but A) Data would indicate he wasn’t as good as Rushworth is this season and B) Has just had a serious injury so we don’t even know if he’ll be ready for next season.

Best keeper in the league, loves the club and will continue to get better. What’s not to want?

I think we'll see the most mised recruitment in years if (when?) we go up.

We'll need old heads who know the league that can assist younger members of the squad, we'll want to invest in players that can develop and secure our future financially and we'll also want players who can have an immediate impact.

Granit Xhaka was arguably Sunderlands most important signing and a big part of why they are staying up.

Not doubting his ability but I do half get the point with Rushworth. Much like Trafford at Burnley initially, sometimes it can end up being too much of a step too soon. We probably need 2 keepers if we’re to be shipping out Dovin on loan - I’ve always kept an eye on Mat Ryan who could be a good addition.
