Weve spent years as the underdog/over achievers in the championship. Even this season, although not really underdogs, certainly over achievers when compared with money spent by other clubs. We're used to being a small fish in a big pond keeping our own. Soon, we'll be a small fish in the ocean trying to keep our own.

Haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if I'm repeating what others have said, but the only way to get ready for the PL, is by first getting into it, then using the income wisely enough to enable you to establish a foothold (even if that means the initial yoyo of relegation and promotion). Regardless, we must at the very least enjoy the present, and prepare for the future (rather than worrying about it).
You have to aim to progress otherwise what are you playing for. So ready or not you’ve got to push for it.
You only get ready once you’re already there imo.
If we do go up, I’d expect a very busy time in getting both the off the pitch and on the pitch ready for opening weekend.

We’ve clearly been putting plans in place behind the scenes to work towards it, so we’ll be well prepared.
At this point my main concern is keeping hold of Lampard from rival clubs and/or idiots calling for him to be sacked if we’re in the bottom 3.

He deserves the whole season to be honest.
Theres no expectations for next year from me, probably as I never thought we'd reach there.
I'd get him signed up on a longer contract and stick with him even if we get relegated.

We can't be spending £30m and £60k a week on a player and bring them to the gazebo that the gym is currently housed in. That needs a major upgrade.

I think King has said something about that not being a priority and that Lampard likes the current set up.
We can. It's a gym they use for a couple of hours a day, I doubt they're that bothered. We can't afford to waste capital on things like that in the first season.

In Football Manager speak the objective is to 'fight bravely against relegation' which I think we will do. Fingers crossed Spurs go down as they will surely not be as terrible next season, and we're joined by Millwall who have been out of the top flight even longer plus Hull or Boro.
The club overall is in a very good place though...yes we'd need to add to the coaching staff, improve facilities etc but it feels vastly more professional than the dysfunctional mess that went down in 2001. The big challenge though is that this season's success is in a big part down to how long so many of the squad have been here, how well they know each other and so on. As you move on the players who aren't good enough to make the step up, you've got to rebuild that cohesion over the summer.
As for the fans, a siege mentality suits it pretty well. Being the plucky underdog in nearly every fixture is something to relish imo.

As heart breaking as loosing the play off final was, not being promoted may have been a blessing in disguise to allow the club to make improvements on & off of the pitch and leave us in a much better place to make a fist of if it next season (if we are promoted of course). If we had gone up that year I think Derby's points record would have been a risk the following season when you look back on that squad.
Certainly still a long way to go off field and as others have suggested DK may not be the man to lead us to stabilising in the premier league, but we are as prepared as we will ever be to make the jump IMO.

It requires an element of luck most the time to stay up these days, although Sunderland tbf have pushed on impressively. But generally I would say you need to finish above the 2 you are promoted with and hope one current Prem team shits the bed (like Wolves) but this doesn't always happen.
So would I, but more for stability than fear of him bring poached.
I only think that will be a danger if we start doing really well in the PL.
Which is why I'd hope Millwall and a non-parachute, non-Wrexham team come up with us. If Spurs go down it means a weaker but equally dysfunctional club like Forest or West Ham have stayed up and you can hope they'll be 'gettable'.
Sunderland owe quite a bit to signing a talismanic midfielder in Xhaka. Someone like that in the centre of midfield or defence for us will be pretty important.
Both look amateur, poor and not something close to the expectation of a Premier League club. Glad we agree.

Against the entirety of the PL we'd obviously be well behind in pretty much every department but it'd be interesting to see what infrastructural / operational improvements DK would look to make presuming we are to go up and where we do really fall short.
