I’m going to be really controversial here, get yourself a Caramac bar.

The challenge with Neil is obvious. If Sunderland don’t think he’s worth hardly any minutes in the Prem why would we give him a 4 year deal at Cov ?

One reason is that he might help us get up which would be brilliant but if your the player do you want to swap not playing for the risk of not playing next season ??
He’s been displaced by Granit Xhaka who’s the best player in that squad by a long distance. I no longer think he’s what we need but he isn’t a bad player.

If you really are after a statement signing and it doesn't come off, do you settle for a panic buy.

Or keep your powder dry and have another go in the summer. It is well known transfers are often achieved over two windows not one.

We still have the squad that got us to the top with points and goals to spare, plus two additions to that squad.

I sometimes think some fans just need a signing to validate their own predictions.
You’re assuming that we have one option and the rest are panics. That would be terrible management.

We may have missed our first target but there will be a list of acceptable targets that fulfil our criteria.

This is the window we need to move on one of them.

We will never get a better chance than this its simple

If we dont spend a penny in this window its not good enough is it let's be honest. Its not like we have a complete squad, we have 1 capable left back, 1 capable DM.

Yes the squads done brilliantly so far, but our rivals are strengthening and closing. Standing still will get us overtaken

Agree that we need to strengthen. Disagree that we’re destined to be overtaken if we don’t sign anyone.

We’ve got a better squad than Boro imo and as for Ipswich, they could be 11 points behind after Monday and their Feb fixtures is stacked with away games where they’ve struggled all season.

We have the benefit of Boro needing to win against ourselves and Ipswich away from home. That’s 2 6-pointers that they have away from home and I highly doubt they win both games. Ipswich and ourselves are the best teams at home.

We’re in a difficult spot because any signing on a perm is pointless if we do not believe they can make it in the prem. Yet, unlike Ipswich, we don’t have Prem money to throw around.

I’m optimistic we’ll get 1-2 signings in so I’ll happily reserve judgement until the window closes.

Thought you said we were 100% getting a CM? Surely you shouldnt need to worry if so....

Based on everything we’ve heard you’d have to assume the club is more than aware of this.

Still have hope we will sign a cm before the window closes, fully understand we have our hands tied unless someone comes in for one of the leftback.

Worry now is that after that performance I doubt Sheffield will be selling Hamer any time soon. So assume our list of cms is getting smaller and smaller

Completely agree. Now is the time where we really go for it and make a statement signing to get us over the line.

I still stand by my pessimistic view that we get to deadline day, try to scramble a signing at the last hour and fall just short (as we seem to do all so often)

That would be pretty terrible if true, for it to happen twice in a season and probably suggest that there is a different narrative to what has been spun in the media.

Wouldn't say it will, but certainly could.

Just feels so predictable as it did in the summer and other recent windows.

Lots of whispers of don’t panic we will have a CM definitely in by Norwich or next week or whenever. Then everything goes radio silent before the predictable deadline day scramble.

Staying true to form, I wonder if we loan out a CM at the 11th hour. Allen to Barnsley?

It is running the same as the summer. Except this time there isnt the purchase of a stadium to quieten down those questioning it.

There is an extremely high chance that it is, in fact, good enough. We shall see at the end of the season.

Are we no longer classing Jake Bidwell or Josh Eccles as capable players now?

Josh Eccles definitely. Bidwell absolutely not.

If JDS gets injured then we drop a lot of points (as already seen this season when he was out for 3 games). It is a considerable risk having only one competent LB for a charge at Autos.

He captained them last season and is very highly rated. He is a victim of them needing to sign premier level players to stay up, similar to their keeper. I think he would be a decent signing, probbly lower than his value too due to his contract situation.
Thing is though, if he wasnt good enough for the step up for them and needed replacing 6 months ago, its surely a silly signing. If he was free or loan id be all over it. Exactly what we need for promotion push. But why spend cash on a player already deemed not good enough for the step up by another club?

The issue is we have players that we cant get rid of, as you say, we have 1 capable LB, but we have 3 in the squad, Doug paid top wages for Woolfenden, who now appears to be 4th choice CH and is unlikely to get many minutes. We have Lats and Allen who can be bit part players, but arnt good enough to give competition to the regular starters, and Eccles who is also a fringe player.
Doug won't keep adding to the squad while we carry so many players.

They closed the gap when we had several players missing and couldn't put anyone on the bench that could change a game.

Against Millwall we brought on Torp, BTA and Saka on with 20 minutes to go and Simms with 10 minutes to go. Against Leicester we brought on Saka and Wright on 67 minutes, Eccles on 72 minutes and BTA on 83 minutes. Strangely enough we took 6 points from 2 difficult games.

Yes it would be good to bring in more players, but we're a lot stronger than when we had our little wobble and stronger than at the start of the season.
