The problem with the midfield 3 of Grimes - Torp - Rudoni is they all play in a straight line. A 4-2-3-1 formation should have someone playing next to Grimes when we are out of possession. Torp and Rudoni are too far forward so if we lose possession, its only Grimes in the centre of the pitch. The Leicester goal and 2 of Birmingham's goals came from us losing possession inside our own half and then a midfielder playing a through ball to split the defence. Its too easy for teams to attack us.
Grimes - Torp - Rudoni works at home against the shite down the bottom of the table where they sit deep and we dominate possession, but against good teams, its like playing without a midfield. The donut formation.
We need someone who can sit next to Grimes and is more athletic and can get around the pitch. Torp and Eccles are neat and tidy but they are not athletic enough to cover the pitch.
Make the midfield more compact when we haven't got the ball and 2/3rds of the teams in this division won't create many chances. As it stands, we're gifting teams 2/3/4 great goal scoring chances per game. Even Charlton looked good against us.
