Just occurred to me that we’ve only had one penalty (and scored!) this season, when was the last time a team scored this many goals in the opening third of a season and it hasn’t been bolstered heavily by pens? Unbelievable!

Or a pen missed against us? I remember one at home v the Dogs in last min. 15 yrs ago-ish? That was good. 👍 😀

I've mentioned this on the forum before, but since promotion to the Championship, one penalty given against us has not been converted, by West Bromwich Albion at the tail-end of 21-22.

Even that one was saved, so in that time, nobody has failed to hit the target against us.

Then there are shootouts; before beating Sheffield Wednesday on penalties in the cup last year, we'd had three shootouts in the same time-frame; Gillingham, Luton, and Manchester United. In those shootouts, one was missed (again, saved).

That's a disproportionate amount of penalties that go in against us.

Conversely, our conversion rate seems normal. Most go in, but a few don't.

There've not been a great deal of penalties in the Championship this season. A lot less than the PL in terms of games played

I remember Jim Blyth saving a last-minute penalty against Norwich. We won 5-4, what a game that was
He also saved one against Liverpool in a 1-0 win that was featured on opening sequences of Grandstand for years. Last one I saw saved was Joe Murphy at Carlisle in a 4-0 win.

I swear Westwood saved more pens for us than he conceeded?

That was the 2-1 wasn't where mifsud terrorised them
He also saved one against Watford, but they scored the rebound. Always a bit deflating, that.

That was the one-off brown kit game under Coleman.

I’ve just had a look back (because I’m particularly sad) and it seems the last time I’d have seen an opposition team miss a penalty against us outside of a shootout is April 2017 v Peterborough. That’s bonkers.

It is. It's a really strange statistic how many successful penalties we've faced in recent years.

Westwood was my favourite keeper I got the pleasure of seeing play for us.
Devastated when he left.
Rushworth is good but still early and Dovin was also good for us but injured.

Westwood meant I was confident we weren't going to get hammered as he was that good. Despite our poor management team at the time

I remember Oggy saving one at Ewood park - might’ve been a FA cup game? Also feel like there was some weird problem with a goalkeeper kit that day and one of the keepers wore the opposing team’s GK shirt with the sponsored taped over? Have I invented that? I also remember some muppet falling through about five rows of seats after a goal and getting up looking like he’d just wandered out of WW1.

The last pen I can genuinely recall us saving (Other than Casemiro's in the FA Cup Semi) was Wilson against WBA the season before we got to the Play-Offs
That was such a great moment. Dull as dishwater match then the away fans rightly went berserk. He was also our second choice at the time and I remember the players throwing him forward to celebrate with the fans at the end

I think I read somewhere that the rules are changing and you can't score from a rebound off the keeper or post. The game is stopped.

Hasn’t that always been the rule when it hits the post or bar and comes back to the pen taker? Off the keeper is a new one (and ridiculous if it’s introduced).

Edit: I just realised you meant it rebounds to anyone! That’s outrageous!

I think I read it on X so it could quite easily be a load of rubbish. I haven't found anything to back the claims up.
