He's not a 10/attacking mid so I assume the idea behind playing him there is to use his energy for pressing and give us more presence in midfield compared to when BTA is there. For me he just didn't impact the game enough, played slightly too high and seemed to be lacking some fitness.
Aye, I rated him poorly just because he’s not really cut out for the job he was asked to do. Good that he got minutes though.

I think Lampard sees him as someone who can play the 8/10 role when needed

Lampard doesn’t see number. Just midfielders. 6, 8, 10 these are numbers for lesser managers.

I thought we were decent tonight even at HT when behind. Some sloppy possession but great work ethic all over.

Really surprised at 5s for MVE, his throws are a big factor that we missed Friday, his pace too, sometimes to get himself out of trouble, but never stopped running and I'd love to know what he covered. One great piece running right across the middle chasing down 3 players until he eventually got in and made the tackle. Only downside was dangling a leg that could've given a silly pen away. I thought 6.5/7, could understand a 6, but certainly not a 5.

Don’t think he ever rated Sheaf. Got the impression Sheaf was unhappy when Robins left tbh and never really settled with the new management.
Something went bad with Sheaf last season. Rumours of bids preseason then injury after injury ,just never seemed to be available or playing at the same level as previous seasons

I imagine Sheaf was expecting to leave last summer, no move materialised and then he was named captain probably against his skill set and during a tough part of the season.

Met him a few times when he was with us as he was seeing a girl in Rugby and her parents used to drink in the same pub as us . He is a lovely lad , very grounded and no airs or graces about him

Just out of interest, is that the Webb Ellis? Saw Sam and his girlfriend in there a couple of times.

Rushworth 7
van Ewijk 4
Thomas 8
Kitching 8
Dasilva 7
Grimes 8
Torp 7
Eccles 6
Sakamoto 8
Wright 6
BTA 7

Mason Clark 6
Allen 7

Generally think van Ewijk is one of our best players but that performance today was baffling. Everything he did seemed to go wrong. One to write off for him personally.

That was a great run across and ball to Haji from Allen, but he came on in the 90th minute for a total of 4 mins and we've now got 3 of you scoring him 7s. It was a nice little cameo but to score him higher than EMC and Wright is plain ridiculous.

Edit: correction 5 of you
(and sorry yo highlight yours @SeaSeeEffCee just yhe most recent)

That was really weird from MVE, couldn't even complete 5 yard passes at times.

Thomas absolutely superb, we wouldn't have lost on Friday with him in the team.

Fair, just not how I saw it

He definitely was still erratic in possession and with his final ball but the dynamic of the game changed almost immediately when he came on as he allowed us to stretch their defensive line more.

BTA struggled on the left in the first half to the point where he ended up just kept on checking back which basically disintegrated all tempo and momentum in our attacking transitions.

Eccles getting unfair scores here. The sub was the right decision for the team but not because he was playing badly.

There’s deffo some confirmation bias with him. In fact the bloke behind me said “well played Torp” when it was Eccles… and “move it quicker Eccles” when it was Torp.

Yeah, they do look similar on the pitch as well, fans just assume everything good is Torp, anything bad Eccles ! Had a decent effort first half, lovely lifted ball over the top to wright (offside) and reverse ball to Dasilva when he hit wide but like a few, tidy enough but probably didn’t influence game much as we’d like. Agreed with the sub though, Mason Clark caused them problems

Actually rewatched some of game and first half we weren’t bad at all for first 25 mins, dominated possession and couple of near misses

Didn’t he play further forward as a kid? I’m sure I remember him being top scorer for the U23s at one point.
Don't think so.

At one point he was playing for the unders pretty much every game, whereas a lot of players drift in and out (either first teamers getting form and fitness or academy players looking to develop) but at the time it was his level. Plus he was the penalty taker at the time.

Rushworth 6 thought he looked indecisive
MvE 5 weird performance
Thomas 8 immense
Kitching 8 steady as a rock
DaSilva 7 mr.consistent these days
Grimes 7 not his best but steady
Torp 7 brilliant set pieces , not as sharp in open play
Eccles 6 thought he did well but right sub
Sakamoto 8 solid performance again
BTA 7 better second half and another goal
Wright 6 not his best game

Subs
EMC 7 game changer
Allen 7 just for the timing of the pass
Ditto. This saves me doing my own ratings.

That's a sign of progression in the way some people think of Eccles. It used to be Sheaf he was mistaken for.
