The only thing you would say to that is we are massively outperforming our xG scored, and that is not sustainable.

But then that's OK, as we can't be expected to keep averaging 2.75 goals per game.

The pre-season suggestions that we needed massive upgrades on our strikers look quite silly now.

Then again, so do the suggestions that we needed massive upgrades to the back four.

I agree , the lads starting at the back are still several years from being at their peak .. we have 3 very good championship centre halves currently in the matchday squad

The difference has been Rushworth. He took a couple of games but Kitching and Thomas both look better with him behind them. You have to say that Frank and his team have responded to what's been needed in a measured way. Incremental improvements. Its the Brentford Way
Or maybe its Starmerism? ( tin hat)

There's a big dose of pragmatism here I feel, I like that.

The overperformance came in 1 game. 7 goals scored v 1 xg

As said above, the only massive overperformance was against QPR, and we massively underperformed against Norwich, which actually was our highest xG.
Here are our xG figures for all our league games.
Only against Derby and QPR have we outperformed our xG by more than 1 goal
Hull 0.87
Derby 3.26
QPR 1.11
Oxford 1.65
Norwich 4.02
Leicester 0.4
Birmingham 2.16
Millwall 3.66

Here are our opponent's xG figures for the same games
Hull 0.45
Derby 1.48
QPR 0.64
Oxford 1.12
Norwich 0.15
Leicester 0.97
Birmingham 0.19
Millwall 1.3

Norwich escaping with a point was genuinely insane wasn't it.

Yeah it’s very different to that season where Preston were top for about 10 games but you could see they were massively outperforming their xG.

Not bad considering that most on here seemed to think we needed to replace all three strikers

Rushworth has been instrumental in some of the clean sheets recently, especially against Leicester and Millwall. Some of the saves he's pulled off have been superb.

He has really integrated into the team now and you can see the backline have a lot of confidence in him too.

He’s on the cusp of being a premier league keeper.. it was very easy for us (me included) to doubt him over the first few games as we are so used to Clown 1 and Clown 2 in goal

He needed to settle in and get match sharp. Yes he made an error in a friendly, who cares? He made an error in a league match but it didn’t cost us points.

The errors haven’t affected him, they have focused him. I think our recent experiences with keepers have made us all a bit overly synical.

I love the way he is now catching the ball instead of parrying. Makes him look far more composed and confident.

BTA has been a revelation this season....when not being played as a lone striker. He has been all over the pitch creating havoc. Simms has joined in also but would you say he would do the job of Wright? 7 goals from 8 games scoring on average every 75 minutes.

Ah the defence 😁 Easy to use a throwaway comment like this when we haven't had any injuries/suspensions to Kitching and Thomas with Binks waiting to come in as a replacement. Or how about MVE not having cover all last season. Would we be where we are if we had gone into the season with Collins and Wilson?

I was on the second row at Millwall just to the side of the goal. I thought Rushworth was outstanding again. Great signing and just what we needed.
