Hold my hands up, thought he'd perhaps had a whisper in his ear about a possible move towards the end of last season, hence why he'd gone off. Clearly, he just wasn't fully fit. I was way off the mark.

Good to see him back to his best, we all know what he can do when he's firing on all cylinders.

Not made the US squad for upcoming games. Won’t pretend to know the sort of players that are in front of him but that’ll be a blow. Desperate for him to continue scoring and make a go of it at the World Cup.

Wright will have a good season. It’s a massive one for him given he’s not 100% in the US squad and with the World Cup being in the states he’ll want to be there.

he’s on for 20 goals as long as he stays fit - and I back him to keep going
20 goals? Wright is on a goal for every 64 minutes he has been on the pitch in the League. If he keeps this rate up he would be closer to 50 goals 😁

Big wake up call for him. He's got to work very hard for that spot.

Haji is the best striker in this league when hes on it

Just gotta make sure hes on it more than off it and he will get 20 plus
Looks a different animal atm, its weird, he's always been dangerous and i'm one of those that was a fan from day one but he can drift out of games. Absolutely honking end of last season too.
Is this another one Lampard can take to the next level? Lets hope so.

That's a good thing. Will give him a hunger to get back in.

2 championship strikers ahead of him in Sargent and Downs of Southampton

Can’t understand why it can’t permeate through that Wright was injured towards the end of last season.
He came back from an injury just as he has literally come back from another injury now?

I'm not sure it's so black and white. It was reported by the USA team he was carrying the knock at the end of last season, he came back from an ankle injury, but it appears that he was then continuing to play through another one with his Achilles.

As far as we know this is him now fully fit for the first time since at least the end period of last season.

Maybe. Still guess work though.

I suspect it's because it's hard to believe that Frank would have kept picking a seriously unfit player. For all the criticism of Simms on here, surely we'd have stood more chance of making the final if he'd played. Haji looks on fire now and I bloody love the guy, but he did virtually nothing in those playoff games.

He didn’t. But that’s hindsight. You only have to look at Simms’ game time now to realise that Lampard thought a semi-fit Wright was a better option.

Doing virtually nothing is Simms' speciality these days

I'm now convinced he needs to be hear 100% fit to perform.
I think the Sunderland home game was an outlier that muddied the waters a bit when assessing his comeback.

Yeah, he was playing with an Achilles problem, Potchettino mentioned it when Haji withdrew from the USA camp.

I’d assume the staff told him to not risk that because you don’t want your star player rupturing their Achilles tendon.
