If Doyle isn’t the right replacement for LBC, what options are there for a better LCB than Binks with pace, under 25, and under £6M?

or go with experienced cb who just knows what to do and when to do it. Do we even need Doyle? As much as I like him or another young cb. We have those

As above, I'm not convinced we should exclusively be playing it in the first place. Strikes me as one of these elite level tactical trends that's come in, a bit like AAATB and cramming your own 6 yard box at corners, that works with elite or at least top end for the level players, but is asking for trouble when you lack either.

Only knowing one way of playing did for Lampard in his previous jobs in the second season.
My fear this year is that Lampard will stick rigidly to his 4-3-3 even though as it stands I don't think we've got the right players and squad balance to play it effectively for extended periods.

Last season we had a great run playing two strikers and a back 3 and although that was always going to drop off somewhat he brought in the 4-3-3 at the first opportunity, results tailed off a bit and all the strikers looked poor.

I've just looked on transfermarkt of all the players at south yorkshire teams and theres nobody in there that comes remotely in value to what I'd consider a "significant spend"

Unless we are signing from Sheff U which I significantly doubt, or Leeds.

Unless there’s someone at one of those clubs who personally knows an expensive young CB and might blab to a friend.

Like Hamer or Kelly

What am I missing, where is someone suggesting we are spending big money on someone from South Yorks?

I’m reading the thread but can’t seem to make it out

If 5th twice and the closest offside call which was done in seconds when a bigger gap normally takes longer from an FA cup final in 3 seasons is said to be a mid table side I would put us as closer to a top 5 side

The gap from 4th to 5th is probably the biggest in the division and definitely larger than 5th to 12th IMO. If you were clustering us we aren’t with the top four, we’re with those below us like Norwich Middlesbrough etc.

Would rather they buy him

What a load of shite. He's a 20 year old full Belgian International.

For context at 20 years old:

Ellis Simms - 10 goals in 23 appearances for Blackpool in League 1
Haji Wright - 1 goal in 7 for Schalke & 14 in 22 for there B team
BTA - 6 in 20 for Salford in league 2

Why do people insist we must sell Bassette because he's not our starting striker already? A loan to one of the clubs mention would be a fantastic move for all parties involved.

Big Mo 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Doyle wasn't even the best centre back at the club while he was here

He was under 19 when he joined. He was the only CB we had that played RCB, LCB and when McFadz got injured he played in the middle of the three.

He was very impressive. He had two bad games, his debut in the cup and another game where he told Robins he was fit but wasn't and got pulled after about 20 minutes.

Apart from that he was as consistent as anyone we had

This suggest he’s in Lampards plans and would need convincing.

In any case a 20 year old Belgian international with lots of potential I would not want to sell. A loan only for now.

Is Doyle better than Kitch? If the answer is Yes (it is) we will be better off with him in the team. If the fee was 4-5 mil people wouldn’t be questioning it. The rumour is Man City want 10 mil, if we could do 5 mil and the rest in add ons it would be a good deal. Doyle looks to have a very high ceiling which could easily see us double our money in a couple of years.

100% its about developing him. And if he feels at home for a year and is developing and getting more game time at home then this makes sense.

I cant see Bassete getting anywhere near our starting X1 at the moment. Unless Lampard decides to go for a front 2.
