I disagree, we still lack a central midfielder who is the engine room of the team and gets us forward. I really hate myself for saying it but its a Hamer esque midfielder we need and i think this lad might be it.
Agreed, we need to break the lines better so hopefully he can help with that.

It depends on the opposition and fixture schedule. For example I wouldn't start Sheaf against opposition where he won't get much time on the ball, but I would when he will.

I agree with this. That's why I made the point earlier about bringing in someone who can ideally do both of those things. It looks like we may well be.

Why is everyone now worried about too many players fighting for similar positions? We haven’t had this for decades. It can only be good and will create healthy competition rather than players thinking that they are nailed on for every game. Lampard will not want complacency and if we get injuries, he has reliable players to call upon.
Because that's only good when every position is like that.

If this guy signed we'd have 7 capable CM's in the squad but also only 2 decent CB's, 1 RW who can go missing away from home, arguably one decent CF (who has looked better on the left and is currently injured) and only one decent keeper (who is injured for a few months)

You're only as good as your weakest link and if we're playing a reserve gk who's not at the level, are only one CB or RW injury from the same situation and kind of crossing our fingers one of the strikers hits a purple patch then knowing we have three good CM's on the bench and some more in the stands isn't much comfort.

Will be great if we can get a good fee for Eccles and shift that to another position of need. He’s good but I don’t see a lot of potential to grow beyond our current level

I cant see why we want him, other positions more important IMO, we have enough central midfielders but in AUSTIN we trust :censored:

Suppose it can both be true to say he isn’t imminently about to leave while we are also putting offers in

I don’t care if we already have 17 centre midfielders, this guy looks cool as hell and on that basis he should be signed immediately.

Really like the look of him but as others have alluded doesn’t really feel it makes a lot of sense in that we need players in other positions more and need others to leave to generate a bit of cash. Maybe it will all shake out before window ends and we can front the cash in the meantime.
