Ben Mayhew of Experimental 3-6-1 does an excellent season stats review and it really was an excellent season for City.

Nothing that we don’t already know (our defence was shit but not quite as bad as we thought and our attackers couldn’t hit a Bern door with a banjo) but interesting comparisons to other teams in the division.

Interesting reading. Those charts say to me our attack was fine and our defence was mid to poor tbh. Were along the frontier (after Leeds) for xG and attacking effectiveness and lower mid table for defence.

And finally comparing squad ages from championship. Average for us 25.5 but obviously we had oldies Wilson, Bidders and Allen.

For all the noice about how Sunderland were the youngest squad we weren’t that far behind!
Notice the old uns at Derby and Blackburn!

Quite a similar age profile to Leeds.

I'm not sure how Leeds can be in the top 2% percent of teams, when there's 24 teams which by definition means the top team is the top 4.17%

I'd interpret as: our attack was good; our defence bang average. It suggests we need to invest in our defense, though I've been suggesting a new Centre Forward and Right Winger... Perhaps the forwards are just easier positions to understand than the defense.

It’s only natural to want an overhaul of our front line after being eliminated in two games where we consistently failed to carve out or take chances. But it’s the defence that has been the real problem for two straight years now, whereas going forward we are clearly one of the league’s better teams.
