Sadly passed away aged 65.

Think he reffed one of the first Cov games I ever went to, and always had a lot of respect for him growing up.

Feel free to move this if it is in the wrong forum section, but thought there would be many of us sad to hear of his passing, and want to pay their respects.

Yes decent referee. I was actually reading about him a few weeks ago as the uni I work for appointed its new chancellor recently and I saw that Sheffield had aswell… their new chancellor stated just 2 weeks ago and he was Uriah.

RIP Uriah. When Mrs Chris1987 was credit marketing manager at William Hill we were sat on top table at the Steel City Cup presentation night at Owlerton Stadium and I was lucky enough to sit next to Uriah Rennie. He was a very interesting guy and also very humble.

This is very sad. He was a great personality; I remember him reffing a match at the Ricoh, his announcement getting booed and him giving a really cheeky "who, me?" grin at the crowd.

Always felt he made himself the focal point on games but a shame he has passed at youngish age and he was a blazer in terms of more than just traditional white refs...also remember an Asian ref who was so terrible it was funny, sent our keeper of for handling outside the box when he was clearly in...can't recall his or keepers name now unfortunately

I don't really remember a lot of his actual 'reffing', but I do recall he upped the bar in terms of fitness and professionalism amongst other refs and was as fit as many of the players.

RIP

Character too, we don't seem to have so many. Iconic ones like Collina or the one that really wound me up - Anders Frisk!

Saw him ref a few of our games, was always pretty decent and the players always seemed to like and respect him.
Met him a couple of times and always a nice man.
Seems well respected in all walks of life, and was recently, after illness, made Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University.
Sad news and gone far too young!

Ian Bennet was sent off and Hughes went in goal against Stoke. He was well out his area from memory.

Jarnail Singh, crikey you've just given me huge nostalgia with that reference.

The only professional referee to have an agent, I think. RIP.

I’m with you on the top part - he was one of 3/4 like that.

Him, Andy D’Urso and Paul Durkin
