Same, always puts me right back in block five row E.

I used to sit with my dad in the main stand for pretty much all of the 90s (he sadly passed in 2006) but whenever I smell a cigar now it takes me right back to that place, the guy around us used to smoke one the whole game. I'm 38 now so only really experience the "new HR" as it were.
I used to always have a burger with onions, no sauce and if I was lucky a snickers or something! That bar in that stand was an old, smoke filled wooded thing, no windows but I loved it!
Parkside, Alvis Holyhead Rd or on the same site as the Village Hotel next to Canley Station on the old Standard Triumph site
Feel I'm well enough entitled to say it considering I lived there from 1995 - 2010
Used to get to the Binley Oak at 12:30, a few pints and 2 cheese rolls (can't bring myself to say batch like you lot) from the bar. Then head to the game at 2:50. Turning the corner (into Catherine St?...) to see the corner of the WT and hearing the crowd used to put the hairs up on the back of neck every single time.
Great days.
You don't like the changing demographic?
It's always been a difficult area.
Parkside was a massive site, could of gone anywhere. There was talk of Cov RFC locating there in the late 90s.The Village site is massive too, I don't mean the actual hotel, I meant somewhere on that site which is now Coventry Business ParkWhere would it have gone at Parkside? The Village Hotel site is too small, Alvis would have been a good shout.
That of course has had an affect on the area but the council couldn't give a fuck about it round there from the second HR closed its doors and they didnt have to keep it looking respectable anymore
Full of HMOs which are full of foreigners spending the bare minimum in the area so they can send a good chunk of their money home….. there sort of said it for you… and its fucking true !It was never a litter infested, fly tipping hotspot with 75 barber shops and a crime rate as high as it is now
I know you're dying for me to try and say something inflammatory or racial, but I won't.

You know there's a sub forum for political ranting, right? This is "Coventry City General Chat", the topic of discussion is literally in the title.
The discussion isn’t football related in reality is it, but memories of the area and what it is now
The thread was about Highfield Road, which is to do with the club and football related, and if it isn't then it should be moved.
You really are rather strange aren’t you?
Self awareness isn't your strength, is it?
Well yes it is. It’s just bizarre you pop up on threads with some faux indignation demanding it is moved when something is mentioned which you claim to find uncomfortable.
at the time of the ground originally was being built, to improve spirits in the local community, all the local streets created teams and played in a football round-robin tournament on gosford green, the winner of which would have their street name used for the new ground. Why was it called Highfield Road, when the ground wasn't on Highfield Road?
I always assumed Highfield Road had once ran through it and joined King Richard Street? Why was it called Highfield Road, when the ground wasn't on Highfield Road?
I grew up in Spring Close then Lansdowne Street from 1989-2010, there was always fly tipping (used to get some great settees for dens), there was always loads of barbers and while i dont know the crime rates i can tell you there was definitely a lot of it.It was never a litter infested, fly tipping hotspot with 75 barber shops and a crime rate as high as it is now

Highfield road was in a great location ,.had plenty of boozers and was a proper matchday experience even for away fans.
The arena has a better atmosphere now than HR did in my time but it doesnt have the same aura on a matchday especially in the surrounding areas
Should definately be a warning at least.Nick - surely there must be rules around being a member of SBT. I demand that you remove Skybluelee with immediate effect and revoke all rights. We shouldn't accept the use of the R word in any situation.....its the thin end of the wedge. What next?? are we going to accept people criticising 2 Tone!!!! FFS sort it out!!
Similar walk as kid, highlight was walking past the “Private Shop” just hoping the door would open at the right timeBefore I left Coventry we lived in Church Lane (by the Rose and Crown) and was a 20 minute walk to the ground through ball hill, a hustle and bustle of a busy place for locals shopping, past Hobdays pet shop and Woolworth’s
Enter the west terrace and have a silly quid on the score/first scorer at the Ladbrooks booth and use up a tree in the process (betting slips were 3 or 4 A4 pages).
Leave disappointed and walk back home and stop at a TV shop peering through the window to see the results and table and see us near the bottom 3 somewhere.
Great memories and a great way to sign off was the last game at Highfield Rd when was my sons first game. He’s blamed me ever since..,,,,,
The one thing I will never forget isn't HR itself but the
The walk up from Pool Meadow for night games was always exciting, loads of sky blues fans making their way through the dimly lit Hillfields streets, drawn by the floodlights, like moths to a flame, with the anticipation building with every step.walk up to it on a night game. The floodlights would be on and they worked like a magnet. You couldn't miss it from the city centre or even most of Coventry. Several pubs on the way whichever direction you came from. It got you buzzing before you even reached the ground.

It's like a third world shit hole now.Used to go to the stoke ex working men's club before the match. Is it a GP's now? I've not been through Ball Hill in years.
I worked at hat TV shop in the early 90s for a while it was crazy to see the amount of people checking the results . We would have the teletext on . Also we would see the visiting fans crawling up Walsgrave Road and give them a little smile and a welcome to Cov hand gesturers. Also Killer rented a big tv(at the time ) 28" and would pay cash monthly . So working most Saturdays around that era i missed a good bit of the entertainer's era .Before I left Coventry we lived in Church Lane (by the Rose and Crown) and was a 20 minute walk to the ground through ball hill, a hustle and bustle of a busy place for locals shopping, past Hobdays pet shop and Woolworth’s
