Where would it have gone at Parkside? The Village Hotel site is too small, Alvis would have been a good shout.

Before I left Coventry we lived in Church Lane (by the Rose and Crown) and was a 20 minute walk to the ground through ball hill, a hustle and bustle of a busy place for locals shopping, past Hobdays pet shop and Woolworth’s 
Enter the west terrace and have a silly quid on the score/first scorer at the Ladbrooks booth and use up a tree in the process (betting slips were 3 or 4 A4 pages).
Leave disappointed and walk back home and stop at a TV shop peering through the window to see the results and table and see us near the bottom 3 somewhere.
Great memories and a great way to sign off was the last game at Highfield Rd when was my sons first game. He’s blamed me ever since..,,,,,

It was never a litter infested, fly tipping hotspot with 75 barber shops and a crime rate as high as it is now
I know you're dying for me to try and say something inflammatory or racial, but I won't.
That of course has had an affect on the area but the council couldn't give a fuck about it round there from the second HR closed its doors and they didnt have to keep it looking respectable anymore

Parkside was a massive site, could of gone anywhere. There was talk of Cov RFC locating there in the late 90s.The Village site is massive too, I don't mean the actual hotel, I meant somewhere on that site which is now Coventry Business Park

at the time of the ground originally was being built, to improve spirits in the local community, all the local streets created teams and played in a football round-robin tournament on gosford green, the winner of which would have their street name used for the new ground.

The one thing I will never forget isn't HR itself but the walk up to it on a night game. The floodlights would be on and they worked like a magnet. You couldn't miss it from the city centre or even most of Coventry. Several pubs on the way whichever direction you came from. It got you buzzing before you even reached the ground.

I grew up in Spring Close then Lansdowne Street from 1989-2010, there was always fly tipping (used to get some great settees for dens), there was always loads of barbers and while i dont know the crime rates i can tell you there was definitely a lot of it.
Calling it a third world slum is describing who's there rather than whats there now.

It's probably more overcrowded and public services like good rubbish collections have made it worse.
Most Western countries have a huge litter problem. Blame the big corporations for packaging everything in cheap plastic.
The area has always been deprived.

The walk up from Pool Meadow for night games was always exciting, loads of sky blues fans making their way through the dimly lit Hillfields streets, drawn by the floodlights, like moths to a flame, with the anticipation building with every step.
Queuing up to get through the turnstiles while listening to the West End choir going through their song sheet, and the hair on the back of your neck sticking up as you hurriedly made your way to join your mates on the hallowed terracing, before filling your lungs to join in with the next chorus!
Such great memories. 🩵

Used to stay with my auntie who lived on Cathrine Street, so would often walk to the shop just across from the ground during games before I caught the bug (family would 'drag' me to the away games every week).
I remember sitting in the main stand with my family during a few games and that bar in the stand that even as a kid in the 90s, felt very dated.
Spent most of the games I did go, in the East Stand with the JSB. Felt like a completely different ground inside compared to the main stand. Then when we moved, decided I wanted a season ticket and after 20 years the CBS finally feels like ours. The first game back after Birmingham felt electric and it's only gotten better since.

I worked at hat TV shop in the early 90s for a while it was crazy to see the amount of people checking the results . We would have the teletext on . Also we would see the visiting fans crawling up Walsgrave Road and give them a little smile and a welcome to Cov hand gesturers. Also Killer rented a big tv(at the time ) 28" and would pay cash monthly .
