Stumbled across this earlier. It was before my time, but given the stature of the player and the fact it was a World Cup qualifier at Highfield Road I'm surprised I've never heard of it before. Were there many other events like this from our past?

I was going to games by then, first game was Oct 72, but don't remember that.

Of course one of the most well known "weird games" was the Anglo Cup Winners match in 87 when we played St Mirren. Went to the home tie, which we won, but the away fixture was never played.

I went to this game, a 1-1 draw if I remember correctly. During the height of the troubles and they played in Hull too

Not so much unusual but more tragic, a bit before my time but in the days before mobile phones, social media and news being accessible at your finger tips - My dad was setting off to go to Watford on the opening day of the season and the game was called off as one of their players was killed in a car crash

Was on the way down the M1 to that game with my kids in the car, wife phoned to say it had been called off, didn't believe her until it came on the radio, truly tragic

Spoke to someone who attended… sounded horrific. Been at his girlfriends and was trying to make up time. Waste of a young life. 😔

I remember it well. Two car loads of us got the message as we were on the way to the station in MK. The guy was on loan from Man Utd I think?

As told by my elderly relatives. Forgotten the names, perhaps someone will remember. We played a "friendly" against an Argentinian club side. Probably 50s or early 60s. The city player my relative knew said in the first minute their centre half gave the city player a helping hand up then when the ref turned slapped our player really hard across the face. The ref awarded the City a disputed penalty later on. The other team surrounded the ref and one of them decked him. The ref, who was quite well known, took the teams off the pitch and abandoned the game.

We played Feyenoord in a friendly and they brought a firm with them , although a very small one. Pretty sure we signed Boateng on the back of that. 250,000 bargain

Seems to recall Ferenc Puskas being paraded at half time around 1996 at half time at Highfield Road possibly at home to Bolton Wanderers.

It was 2003 mate, so only just. It was one of the hottest days on record, I remember being in the garden that afternoon.

Anyone remember the “mid-season” friendly against Bayern Munich in 1998?

Their fans were absolutely brilliant. Loudest i've ever heard at Highfield Rd.

I remember they had a massive striker (Karsten Jancker) and he ko'd some poor woman in the East Stand doing shooting practice in the warmup....

I remember Forest Green at home back in 2017. Night game. No one here will remember it because it was back in League Two and there was only 6000 there. Madness.
I remember the bloke storming the pitch just before the final whistle and confronting the players - He got a subsequent lifetime ban from the ricoh

Think of everything he has missed since...

Remember that lad who was youth team goalkeeper at the time and supposedly picked out of the stand to go in goal ,as we didn't have anyone fit at the time. The media named him the pop and crisps kid
