It's time to confess that I am a landlord, purchased it with some savings to provide an alternative to my pension savings a 15 years ago and give me a monthly fixed amount when I retire as opposed to trusting annuities and me dying straight away and the wife/children not having any benefit from that pension.
I have the same tenants are still in there, yes, they are paying for the investment, but equally, it started at £500 rent and we have never increased it in all the years they have been there and always give them the December money back for Christmas
I have offered for them to buy it but they don't want to and are happy with staying rented, which some are, but what they all need, is protection around the scandalous rents that the majority do charge and continue to increase but sadly, you only have to look at the US and the private rented sector and big funds owning the majority of the market, its happening here and all around Wembley as an example is private PRS charging a fortune.
It will either be unaffordable in the future, crash down in values, or leave local authorities paying a fortune to house people in 1 bedsits in a shared HMO's or PRS apartments. Cracking down on private landlords is one element but its the big PRS players that are driving a crazy market, same as for the student market

Argentina borrows money denominated in other currencies, the UK does not do that nor need to.

Not sure that’s 100% correct. IIRC from something I read a long time ago the government doesn’t but the BOE does, especially in USD and EUR. We might not be as exposed as Argentina given the Peso is worthless (especially true since it’s lurch into right wing populism) but we are exposed at least through the BOE.

The funny thing is the article was debating the risks of inflation and whether the covid monetary policy ie everyone printing hundreds of billions, might cause inflation. The alternative view

You think the inflation driven by energy costs, supply constraints and then by war was due to "covid printing money".
It was the perfect storm but there is no doubt that printing money especially during a supply side shock had a significant affect on inflation. I’ve said before have a look at what’s happened to asset values, especially US stock market even prior to war. Look at what you can buy for your pound or dollar today compared to say 15 years ago. I could go on but as I’ve said before we’ll have to agree to disagree

Not sure if you’ve misread, nowhere am I talking about the racist or misogynistic language, except where I expressed dismay at the blatant lie that it wasn’t racist and misogynistic.
My issue is with reporting him to the police for incitement to violence when that very clearly wasn’t what happened. Saying someone needs shooting is a very normal figure of speech which in no way is a call to violence.

Problem is that the right is full of nutters who aren’t shy of resorting to violence. Ask Jo Coxes family. It only needs one to take it as a call to arms. So at the end of the day I guess it depends on your definition of “serious”.
