Still seeing comments about whether our transfer window was a positive period for the club or whether it had demolished any chances of playoffs.

But don't we still have access to free agents ? Been through the list on Transfermrkt and there are some decent players on there that are within our budget and skill set needs, at least for 6 month contracts to see us through.

Three I've seen today that may be worth pursuing :

CM- Matty Longstaff - age 23 - Ex Newcastle

CM- Josh Onomah - age 26 - ex Spurs and Preston

LW/CM - Ovie Ejaria - age 26 - ex Liverpool and Reading

Longstaff hasn't played since doing his ACL. Not going to be ready to do anything this season/

I’m.not sure about any of our keepers to be honest none of the above can catch a cross for a start.

Collins never ever catches a ball, we have been lucky the ball has gone to our playeso far after he has parried it
Watching Saturdays highlites again he could have come for that cross and just a finger tip would have altered the flight of the ball & where it landed, we are relying too much on heading crosses out and hoping to get to the loose ball first.

Free agents are free agents for a reason

That's over-simplifying the situation dramatically.

Cal was a free agent when he came here. And he'll be a free agent again at the end of the season.

Ejaria was released by Reading by mutual consent. Club said it was down to limited first team outings and their financial problems.

O'Hare wasn't a free agent in February though. Big difference

You are over-simplifying it. There is a big difference between someone becoming a free agent at the end of a season then going into a full pre season with a new club.

Most free agents in January were free agents in the summer and those that were not free agents usually have had zero game time in the meantime.

Ohare was a free transfer / agent you are correct.

There is a difference however of a player being available after the window closes

These types of players are available because they are released by mutual consent or that they haven’t been picked up by another club - most likely due to fitness or the fact that they are simply not good enough (Or sometimes a loan from a different club in their off season - MLS for example)

That makes it highly unlikely a free agent will walk into our squad and make a difference.

True but I was reading an article about him yesterday that said he's still training with the Newcastle first team and they are actively getting him up to speed to help him secure a contract. He would undoubtedly be lacking in match sharpness but he should be generally fit and not too far off. All that said I still don't imagine we are interested.

He's not played for about 13 months, he isn't going to be ready to play anytime this season. Plus he was at the time only doing OK in league 2.

He scored a couple of goals against United but really was not doing much after that when fit.

Don't know about the last but Dennis Wise was the best by miles.
