There's always been coked/boozed up young lads at football.

Difference now, we see the videos and the tweets. That didn't happen 15 years ago. You might hear what happened from mates who went but that was it.

There is definitely an increase in drugs though. Not necessarily with Cov but definitely with England games.

Years ago Leamington played Southend in a FA Cup game. I was at the back (as a youth) of a group of fans (equivalent to Singers Corner) who surged onto the pitch (nothing to do with me). As one of a number who were left on the terracing, I - along with a handful of others - got grabbed by the police and was frogmarched out of the ground to a police van. I was bricking it, as I knew my old man was in the ground, with my mum. Luckily the lad in front of me started wrestling with the copper who had him, and my obliging officer let me go to assist his colleague. I paid to get back in the ground and went and stood quietly, but got a bollocking when I got home, as my dad had seen me getting marched out of the ground. My one and only run in with the plod at a match (except WBA in the FA Cup quarter final, when I got slammed against a wall by an old timer officer for ......singing!) Too old for it now, and too timid for it in my youth!

This is only the second real bit of trouble at a Coventry football match in about 3/4years.

And even then, on the odd occasions there have been trouble in the last 10 years, it's been between young lads themselves.

I was with my nephew yesterday, we walked straight past, no problems.

Tbf we were in Brum for 2 years and only minimal numbers before that. Anyone who watched us in L2 was clearly hard-core and didn't want a banning order

There's been one major incident in the ground in about 2 decades and the last time baring Millwall standing in the middle of the Folesgill road being kettled I can remember any real trouble in the streets around the game was about 13 years ago against Brum after we sang Birmingham is full of shite at them for about70 minutes.

It's not the 70s or 80s mate and it's not going to be so calm down.

The Derby fans are complaining about a few, Stone island wearing coked up twats spoiling their away days.
We are in the same position, as I guess most teams with a half decent following are.
It boiled over at home on Saturday, and moved to the terraces for everyone to see.
If you go away you have seen it from our fans, bit of fighting powder, and off we go.
Whats the answer? I have no idea, more plain clothed police? More CCTV ?
All I know is it will stop people attending football matches,so someone has to find an answer.

Doesn't really need to be an answer. The police stamped out hooliganism 20 years ago with the banning orders.

These days it's as everyone has said, just rowdy teens on the booze. No different to a night on the town.

Of course and the violence at night can be dreadful. Always down to alcohol but that's another debate.

It isn't easy if you're on a banning order, it's a completely different circumstance from just a ban from the club

I’m not acting like it happens a lot.
I was responding to someone saying it’s no different to a night on the town
Happy with second chances but like Covid the response needs to be quick and severe to nip it in the bud
Maybe I’m just a wuss

It was the first time there has been a major crowd of away fans in the end - other than Forest - so its not really an argument we have not seen that much of it. There was of course some disturbance at the last game with Fulham and the goading from the corporate stands

I think some of it comes from us being in the lower leagues so long we normally just had so many more fans than our opposition. It's not going to kick off when FGR have 40 fans in the away end and our yout can give it the biggun when we have more fans away at Accrington than they have home fans.

We're not a big fish in a small pond anymore though and if people want to find trouble they will.

It also might be a reason as to why Derby thought they could come and turn a few people over, little Cov just got promoted will be no bother etc.

Don't know if I should be surprised or not that there seems to be a decent chunk of people on here who aren't bothered if there's trouble in or around the ground.

For those saying 'it wasn't as bad as the 80s' that's not really a great argument for me. In the 80s football was in its arse, grounds were empty and fans caged in. For me its far better to get on top of things now than let it drift until a point where its a larger issue. We're going to be getting bigger crowds regularly so you can't just dismiss it on the basis it didn't happen when we were in L1 and L2 where the away following didn't fill one block.

My concern is that those in charge don't seem to learn. We have more segregation between home and away fans than most other grounds yet this isn't the first time someones been able to wander across unchallenged by stewards or police. Similarly week in week out there's complaints on here about the fence and how its creating a flash point at the end where there's regularly trouble and yet again its been an issue.

Instead of being reactive to individual event those in charge need to look at the whole issue of crowd management, including the crowd dispersal plan, because what we have at the moment isn't working. Every club has its share of idiots but I don't for a minute believe we've got significantly more than other clubs yet there is regularly issues, maybe not on the scale of this weekend but issues nonetheless.

I'll tell you what would nipped it in the bud though, the old bill actually taking action when it started to get a bit volatile instead of leave a few minimum wage stewards to deal with it.

Get on top of what? It's unlikely to happen again now.

It's the 2nd time in about 5 years some has been able to wander across.

The fence is stupid and pointless if you can just walk down and around it

Absolutely case in point today that keeping the away fans in needs to be a decision that can be considered dynamically. Any sign of issues keep the away fans in

I don't want to be 'Mr. Fence' but I knew it was going to kick off this week and Ms LG was nervous about it so I made sure we were stood by the exits ready for the whistle so we could get straight out. We normally stay and clap the players but I knew it would be hell at the end of that fence so we just got out and past it as soon as we could.

Sure enough when we were walking over the bridge we could see it kicking off exactly and the flash point they've created at the end of the fence.

Mr fence

I saw a few media outlets report this game as a local derby, which I found weird. Is anyone bothered about them? I'm pretty sure they couldn't care less about us.

After Swansea our next 5 home games are Bristol, Blues, WBA, Stoke who will all bring the same numbers as Derby & Forest then Millwall who will probably bring a lot less but well its Millwall!

Yep people need to start earning their money and put some ideas into action about how to right what went wrong and consider what changes are required

I’ve already been on to Stadium Group rep from the supporters forum to ask what’s happening and the lead police chap was going to look at these last 2 games to consider how best to manage games such as these

Yep. It could well highlight that we need to get our own house in order as well. I appreciate it is probably expected with larger numbers now following, but seen more trouble this season already than at probably the last ten combined. I've done every away game bar Luton (thank God) and think the only one that went without me seeing some kind of incident was surprisingly Blackpool. Not talking large scale disorder but fights between like groups of 4 or 5 Cov fans and the same number of opposition. Getting a bit tiresome to be honest.

think i might get a few pelters for this but here goes.....

My kids are 12 and 7, and witnessed the trouble (were in block 22). Other than questions about why its happening, they both seemed fine

And not being braindead, I decided to leave at 85 minutes, and head away the back way, behind the north stand to avoid the kids seeing any sort of issue. Granted not everyone can do that, but doesn't it just take some common sense from parents?

It was kicking off inside, was deffo going too outside, so surely you plan for that and for example do as I did and not go near it?

Again, this isn't an attack at you at all as what you have done is sensible, BUT, it really, really shouldn't be 'You have to leave the football you have come and paid to watch early to avoid seeing grown men fighting'.

Oh I agree. I could have worded it better, and i dont advocate the trouble whatsoever.

I just seen a few on here and twitter saying 'walked through it all with young kids'.

Stevie wonder could have seen the carnage that was going to ensue outside, so why didnt anyone use their head and just either leave early, later, or go another way.

Granted it shouldn't be that way at all, but i cant understand why people just thought 'oh il go the normal way past the derby lot and all will be fine'

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record why does the dibble rep need to look at the game to realise standing around doing fuck all is a poor way of doing crowd control when it gets volatile. Sorry but they need to accept they played a part in this.
