Walked a 4 mile route yesterday lunch time. Thought I'd run the same route. Finished at 3.86 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

ran in 30.59, which I'm slightly disappointed about 😩
More so as 12 months to the day I got my 10k PB of 45:02 and was disappointed by the 02 seconds!! I'd take anything to reach that now!!

Change of route today, came out of my estate along Bennett’s road onto fivefield the hills tough. Over onto holly fast lane left onto wall hill rd , up through coundon park ( the new path is good ) onto High street back onto Bennett’s road and home 5.8 miles . Loved it

Just out of interest, and i was tempted to make a suggestion...

I don't know how often you attempt your 10km... but i'd suggest an idea would be to forget about timing any runs for 6-8 weeks... just go out and run them steadily, but if you can, just try and push the time you are out a little... on your way back, do an extra lap round the streets and try to push an extra half a mile.

6-8 weeks of regular running, then have another go at your 10km... i'd be quietly confident you might see some further decent results in your 10km time...

Going back a little way here, but I woke up this morning and thought I’d take inspiration from this and planned a 10-mile route with the knowledge that I might have to stop late on (most I’ve run previously, as you’ll know, is 10km). Managed to complete the circuit, still timed it just for reference but wasn’t really looking to push pace at all, just endure as much as possible. Interestingly, my pace averaged out at 10:16 per mile which is only slightly above previous 10km efforts. The first 8.5 miles were actually relatively easy and I was thinking at that stage that I could go further than the 10 miles planned. However, the last mile was gruelling as fuck and glad it ended. Really impressed with myself though.

3.4 km in 22:59. The last 500 I felt like Matt godden after 90 mins playing the lone striker. Felt like I was going backwards.

Anyway, shaved off 5 minutes from previous time but I used to still do the 5km quicker.

Not had a day off running in 2021 but it’s now come at a cost. Really sore lower calf/upper Achilles(?) if that’s a thing. Disappointed to bring the streak to an end as will probably need a few days rest

How old are you? In my late 40’s these niggles happen all the time and they take longer to get better. Think the trick is to listen to the body and limit distance and speed as you come back

Really wanted to try a longer run over the weekend, so decided to just run until I started to tire and then head back.

Managed 8 miles which was more then I expected and felt surprisingly ok during and after. Still found it a lot harder than I would have pre Covid, but I was pleased I could get that far considering I’ve only been running again for a week.

However, went out toddy and really struggled!

Harder session for me tonight after an easier week.
Warm up of 3km, followed by 3x10mins with 2:30 mins off and 1km cool down to finish (would have liked a longer cool down, but time didn't allow but I did manage to walk the dog this evening so that kind of counts).
Average reps of probably around 3:38/km.

Lovely evening for it.

CrawleySkyBlue i bet you would be able to post a decent time on a 3000mtr track race. Given the one-off effort and race conditions, i'd guess you wouldn't be far off 10mins.

This morning for me it was 6 x 800mtr efforts in Bedworth Park. Wasn't expecting much time-wise given the swirling wind and my first hard rep session in well over a week. But kept them consistent between 3:35-3:27/km pace. Admittedly with a long rest period (around 400mtrs jog back round to the start of the lap).

I’m amazed the bug I had wasn’t Covid. Just been on my first run in about 3 weeks since I fell ill and it was horrendous. Chest felt about 3/4 of the size it was, like I wasn’t able to breath as deep as I normally could. Long way to work back now.

10k effort yesterday morning saw a further improved time at 55:47 (down from 58:28). Plan is to do one 10k each month and see what happens.

My new balance are hanging onto life by a thread so just picked up some Nike Pegasus 37 for £75 in the sale at Sports Direct

Yep, can't go wrong with the pegasus.

If you're ever near a Nike Factory Outlet (the nearest one is at Resorts World) then you can usually find the previous model for around £75 or less. And if you're lucky you might find a model from a coupe of editions previous, (which i've snapped up for £50 before, but some of my clubmates claim to have found them at less than £30 occasionally.

15 miles today.

Bedworth - Bulkington - Aldermans Green - Bell Green - Stoney Stanton Rd - City Centre - Foleshill Rd - Holbrooks - Bedworth

7:20/mile pace.

That sounds like a great run. Fair play 👌

Finally got my running trainers back on - want to start back up with the football at beginning of April. I just feel utterly shit at it. Did 2.5 miles today but I feel like I make it so difficult for myself but don’t know why....

Is that along a particular path , wouldn’t mind trying a part of that

Was just on roads & pavement.

The section from Bulko to Aldermans Green was 90% no pavement, but the road was very quiet.

The rest was just main roads. Main road from Old Crown/Bird In Hand into Bell Green, then down the main road to the A444 at Gallagher . Stoney Stanton Rd, Swanswell Park, over the canal basin ring road bridge, then Foleshill Rd, Lockhurst Lane towards Ash Green/Bedworth.

Club challenge I need 7 good hills to run up as close together as possible. Anyone got any recommendations? I need to be able to get there this week so it has to be local to Beduth/Cov

It depends on your definition of a "good hill"...

In Bedworth i can only really think of Rectory Drive, which is several hundred metres bottom to top.

There's more in some of the Cov housing estates, but the best one in Cov for me is the Medical Block Hill at Warwick University, which is only just off the Gibbet Hill Road and (unsurprisingly) next to the Medical School at the top end of the Uni.

We do hill repeats on that one and it's a goodun'.

But doubt you'll find seven hills close to each other, would need to be repeats.

Ran my fastest 5k yesterday at 21.45. Still plenty of room for improvement but having not been able to run at all because of the long effects of COVID until about September-ish time, it feels good. Got to work to get under 21 minutes now. I have a dream of one day running sub 20 but it will probably be beyond me.
That’s excellent, well done!

At 49 I have to remind myself that my 16:30 at the age of 19 as a skinny runner is no longer possible

It has to be 7 different routes up hills. I have rectory drive, rye piece both ways, regent street and marston. But that’s only 5 and the relative gain is pants.
