Barnsley on a madness (1 Viewer)

For our sake we desperately need to be promoted this season we’ve been too good not to be.
You wouldn't have a cat in hell's chance in the Premier though would you. I can see Brentford and Norwich maybe surviving, but you would surely find it far too tough.

Out of interest, would you say you have any Premier quality players at the moment?

six of one, half a dozen of the other, if we don’t go up we’ll struggle until Christmas and probably be in bottom 3 again, if we do go up we’ll be in same position but with £200M in the bank.

Do people still want to go into the prem? It's basically a billionaire's playground only now. One or two outside that bracket are there, but it's rare. I'd honestly be happy just growing and staying in the Champ.

James is ok, had a couple of really good games when he came in but has been pretty average since. He did bring some experience to the side whilst Kelly was injured but we have played as well with him in the side as we do with Kelly. I really don't get the sheaf bashing, I think he's had a decent season and nowhere near as bad as some make out. We have missed him at times.

That said re: James. I wouldn't want to sign him in the summer, we should be adequately covered with Kelly, Sheaf and Hamer for those defensive midfield roles, and it wouldn't be worth the decent wedge he would command.

I wouldnt keep Sheaf as Eccles looks good and it would stall his development to bring in Sheaf

@Otis to answer your question about premier league quality players Callum Styles is best left back in this league he’d piss premier league. One or two others have the quality to step up in time. But he’s good enough now.

The way we operateone season in the premier league would make us a top 10 championship team for 10-15 years.

So you'd want to emulate the trick of going up, taking the money and going back down purely for financial reasons? Fair enough if so.

It's funny how when another team's fan say "he's the best in the league", generally no-one else has heard of him.

My only worry there is with SISU. They'll no doubt use the money elsewhere :(
Aaand there we go. After your first post on the site being in the Wasps Downward Spiral chat (30 mins after signing up...), I had this funny feeling you'd then start posting anti-SISU stuff...

how is Hamer overrated ?? his performance have carried the team earlier in the season, hard worker, passionate, his set plays and delivery are excellent, plus his 1st season in the champ with a new team in a different country. think he has been a bargain. his goals have saved a fair few results too, derby away is just one i can think of off the top of my head. granted his performances of late hasn't been up to the standard of earlier form but think he's played literally every game. maybe deserve a rest. easily contender for player of the season in my eyes...PUSB
I accept your point of view. I obviously don’t share it and although the reasons you give are valid I stand by my opinion.
He is not a show pony, he works hard and I agree he has a shot on him but for me he is a liability once the ref has marked his card. His productivity is then reduced markedly and he goes in to his shell and it is getting earlier and earlier in games.
Player of the season? Maybe player of the month for November.
In a side where contenders for player of the season is going to slim pickings I would reluctantly say he is fourth behind O’Hare, McCallum and Kelly but I do hope he can raise my opinion, which means nothing, in the last third of the season.

I think James has lots of positive attributes, but I just don't think his positioning is consistently good enough yet. He gets dragged quite wide at times, then leaves gaping holes in the middle, but people fawn over him because he looks classy on the ball. The positioning is where Kelly excels, because he's usually in the right place at the right time. I'm not writing James off, because he's clearly competent, but imo he's either getting something wrong in his positioning, or he's overestimating his teammates ability / footballing sense to be able to cover the gaps that he leaves.

Agree on that, Kelly's great at anticipating danger (he often drops in to the space between the wing back and centre back and mops up, something James doesn't.

James is tidy on the ball and his delivery is good (see ball in for McFadz' miss late on v Swansea).

It's really not. The guy was one of the best players in a team higher up the division and he's 29 years old. Joe Cole was 34 and hadn't been playing regularly.

It really is. He’s expensive and he’s adding no improvement on the pitch and is second fiddle to a guy in his 30’s who was in league 2 three years ago

our lot would use the money to make us serious promotion contenders for years.

I admire your optimism but you are owned by a consortium of investment companies aren’t you?

yeah and a local lad and his mum who have our former owners share. The way they’re running the club is right, they’re running it like a viable business, investing what the club generates back into the club. For now anyway.

I don’t think he’s a waste of money per se, I’m of the opinion that he’s a class player, however is likely on a significant wage, which could have been used on a better strike option than Gyorkeres

It depends if such a ficticious striker at the cost was actually available?

One thing we know for sure is James was available and wanted to come here.

I think he will prove to be a valuable asset and has already scooped one MOM.

They have shares in other football clubs as well though and have openly stated they want to buy a Scottish premier league club

Makes no difference if they keep running the club as they are, we’ll have a fair few good seasons, we’re about 20 places higher than we should be given our budget. They keep finding very good players and coaches and we’re doing better than we could wish for.

I’d imagine there was a better striker than Bakayoko and Biamou at that cost available
