Technically he's very good and he passes the ball well. He also works hard but he really can't tackle. He still might be a useful squad player.
his body type is all wrong he hasn’t got the engine or positional awareness to play CDM at this level he’s certainly not replacing Kelly,James,Sheaf or Hamer either

Would be great if he could fit in as a left sided CM like Shipley does, but better.
Remember reading that Hilssner was regarded as a speedster when coming through. How did that completely disappear in 5 years?

If he had any pace/fitness whatsoever he'd be a great option in the LCM spot.

We only have four defensive midfielders in the squad at the moment, so I'm sure Robins will be delighted we may have another one.

Sounds like he's doing alright but 'alright in League Two' doesn't scream Championship quality. Unless he properly tears in up from now until the end of the season I expect he'll be back in Germany by the end of the summer.

To be fair, and I know this is sad, I went onto the Oldham forum, and a lot have the view that he's nigh on undroppable rather than just alright. We all know the L2 standard isn't great (remember when Concrete Rod was temporarily loved on here?) but he seems to be standing out for them.

I know some fans are desperate to pick holes in our recruitment but he wasn't some random impulse buy, we tracked him for at least a year & saw enough over that time to offer him a 3 year contract.
He's clearly got good technical ability but had major fitness issues since arriving.

Hopefully he can continue impressing at Oldham & come back like a new signing for next season. In terms of position, he said upon signing that he saw himself playing as a 10 or an 8 for us & I don't think that's unrealistic. He's played vast majority of minutes at Oldham with little adverse effects. The likes of Kelly, James & Sheaf aren't exactly the most mobile either.

I'm happy to accept the recruitment, happy to accept he's a punt, to see if it works. I would be surprised if it did however. He seems to have a career of impressing at lower levels, but just struggling to make the step up. Now, obviously, it'd be nice for everyone (including him!) if he bucked that - I woudn't necessarily expect him to, though.

That doesn't mean it was wrong to bring him in though, even if he doesn't make it.

Well people on sites like these are quick to right players off as rubbish far to often. Give hillsner a chance who knows he might surprise people. Pusb

I've watched him play 3-4 times for Oldham. He is nowhere near good enough or mobile enough to play 10 or 8 in the championship. Hes looked decent playing deeper, but just sits and is put under little pressure when he has possession so has more time on the ball. I'd forgotten how poor League Two was.

He will maybe comeback and compete for a defensive berth, but I havent seen anything to suggest he's anywhere near the standard of Kelly, James and Sheaf.

That is not the SBT way!!

Au contraire, there is any amount of defence for players who are clearly not mid table championship level. You suggest they are not up to snuff and people leap in. Hyam, McFadz (going forward - age), Shipley, both keepers, Pask, Dacosta (maybe), Max, Baka all are just not good enbough.

Thank heavens for loans.
