Great news. Lets start the campaign to get SISU to build a new stadium in the middle of town. Doesn't matter if there's anything already there we can just get the council to give us a hand.

As I’ve been banging on a few times:
Getting planning on a green belt or old brownfield site is one set of hurdles.
Expanding an existing venue leaves less opportunity for Council meddling (the Council has issues with SISU and worries that the appeal might bite them). Sure they’ll be issues with each one but I’m sure there’s a solution somewhere.
The main issues are usually traffic, taller stands blocking light of neighbouring housing, car parking.
There are several venues that need another look at:
Butts. Good location but tight space.
Copsewood.
Sphinx
Cov Sporting.
Etc etc
several sites with housing only in one side (so tall stands on the others) and no “change of use” issues.
Follow logic line: let’s say some consortium took over the Sphinx and rebuilt the ground and got them into the EFL hence creating far larger crowds, would there be planning issues? (It never happens? See Salford for details). Not necessarily. Could CCFC merge and then be stopped expanding? Not necessarily.
issues to overcome:
car parking:
find a brownfield site and have a park and ride.
pubs
get the demand there and I’m sure Spoons will take one over nearby and capitalise
trains?
buses from nearest station
it’s not as though CCFC haven’t done anything like this before. I’m sure they purchased the old windmill in Leam at some point.
SISU spent their first few years of ownership
acting like amateurs. They’ve got a lot right lately and (IMHO) need to think outside the (penalty) box.

Would be a great place but I would have thought it would cost too much to purchase the land.
It would be prime building land if it ever came up for sale.

Given the current health situation and the up and coming problems with Brexit i would be surprised if SISU are pushing that hard to acquire a site let alone put in planning then start building. The economic case to build a stadium has taken a hit, certainly until the world gets to grips with Covid19. The size of crowds and events are going to be restricted for years, which in turn restricts income which in turn affects the viability.
Would CCFC own it? probably not it would almost certainly be owned by a property company. To finance the build would require 10's of millions unless the site could be part sold for housing....... that funding would require a return by way of rent to meet the repayments & interest
Hearsall Common is a big open space but i would think the first change of use for that area would be housing i would have thought.
There are lots of pros and cons to the site listed by others above but i just query whether right now the best interests of the club are served by pushing this project. I also personally think that a new site is not really the SISU objective and to push for one would negate what they have worked on in the last 18 months. Just my opinion of course

putting pressure, even distressing wasps by the eu complaint risk and taking ccfc to play elsewhere (whether you choose to believe by choice or otherwise). Why throw that away when everyone can see wasps are under great financial pressure.
Thats why I am of the belief that we won't be back next season. But thats just my opinion for the moment.

for what’s it’s worth, I agree with you. So many on here saying eu complaint isn’t a risk to wasps, of course it is, hence their stance.
Sadly though, I can’t see it being huge step Fwds even if wasps go pop. Sisu still have to try and work with ccc
If the EU complaint was upheld, breaking wasps in the process, wouldn’t the council be left in the position of having to recover a financial embarrassment with not unlimited ways of doing it? Plus some political embarrassment as well?

yes they would. I wouldn’t be surprised if they looked to turn it into the largest indoor concert arena in uk or something else as bizarre.
The biggest surprise for me would be them to work with sisu again, they have form that it’s not their preferred direction of travel

given that everyone is trying to develop outdoor venues in light of the corona virus that would exactly the sort of stupid stunt CCC would pull.
If they didn’t at least offer it to the football club at the appropriate rate, they really would end up looking like the malicious conniving twats that they are.

Given that Leamington are having a 5000 seater ground and complex built (with the support of Warwickshire Council) isn’t there some scope for SISU sitting around a table and investigating the angles there?
(most of the players probably live in Leamington anyway)
For a start, Cov could play lesser cup games or U23 games there if nothing else. If we do return to the Ricoh then what’s the point having 3000 fans there for a midweek League Cup game and probably paying more in rent than the gate receipts? (Reminder, CCFC used to own the Leamington old ground and do a similar thing I think)

funnily enough I always wondered if this will end up being wasps get out of jail if things hit the fan. Wouldn’t have to uproot especially with the muted Henley training ground and nearer there new supporters but also slightly closer to their old bucks/London fans.
