Thinking if there was someone who opened a drop down menu and saw male or female, they’d be angry because what they consider themselves to be isn’t an option. It blows my mind.

one of the questions, was “how do you travel to the game”. I have to tick, “other”. Imagine if it said, “sex” and the options were, male, female, other

Don't watch it. What did they say ?

Being South Park it was obviously a pisstake of the situation.

It was one of the characters (Cartman) being fed up of all the male cubicles being used so decided to claim he was transgender to use the girls toilet, which is agreed to in case he makes a fuss. Girls don't like this and they cause a fuss, so Cartman is given his own private toilet at large expense. One of the girls then also claims to be transgender so they can use the nice private bathroom. In the end they decide everyone uses whichever bathroom they feel most comfortable with, unless they're bothered by transgender people in which case they use the private toilet.

I love being close minded. Helps me get through the day! Oh, and if this issue is "real", it's only because snowflakes like you that have caused it and brought the false feelings to light. I'll say it again and will keep saying it, you are either MALE or FEMALE. If you look down and see a dick, then you are male. If you see a minge, you are female. Live with it!

And if that works for you I genuinely feel sorry for you

Oh jeez, here we go again. It's really simple yet people are either too thick to understand the difference between sex and gender - as defined by just about any dictionary or medical journal - or else they are engaging in a kneejerk reaction to the very unfortunate identify politics that's around.

We are all biologically of male sex or female sex as defined very fundamentally by our gamete type. Even the intersex are either fundamentally male or female as defined by their gamete type, no matter what's between their legs.

Gender, on the other hand, is the behaviour and appearance of a person as traditionally associated with the sexes and is the expression of gamete, physiological, phenological and sociological upbringing. This isn't an opinion: it's a medical and literary definition.

It is for such reason that in the Department of Education we collect information on both the sex and gender of a person, and it's why in questionnaires I respond that I am male if asked after my sex, and female or transgender (since I identify across the genders) if asked about my gender.

Government departments reporting on medical matters report on either or both sex and gender according to the context. Clearly, if you are investigating the interaction of a virus on males or females then the most important thing is to determine if they have an XY gamete or not, whereas reporting, say, on the effectiveness of a drug for depression may be more nuanced and so sex and gender may be recorded/reported.

And just for the record - I hate Woke and Identity politics - this distinction between sex and gender is not a very good basis for the kinds of things that the alt-left extremes are pushing, and 99% of us wish they'd all go and teapot off.

Edit: 'teapot' is used on a very long-running community board I know as a filter word for profanities. It was adopted because 'I want to/if were to identify as a teapot' is thought to mark the writer out as the most stupid, boring lame, and laughable of all the antagonists we have to deal with in our daily lives.
Jesus Christ. Teapot was used by Houch as a joke.
Let's get some perspective on this.
I actually read on another long running community board that teapot was used to mark the writer out as highly intelligent .
Its easy to say you read it somewhere. As for all this left wing / right wing bollocks, it's bollocks.

I quoted "teapot" from a thread above mine... i may just as well have used "phillips screwdriver" which was in a similar quote.

By all means people can refer to gender how they wish... i wasn't casting aspersions on that... i was responding to a post which seemed in my eyes to suggest that male/female thinking was outdated... i think they suggested that this was the thinking of a "dinosaur".

My worry, and i assume this will echo the feelings of many... is where this is all heading in the future... i have a 5 year old nephew (English, white, male)..... his best friend is a black boy.... he thinks nothing of this, and the only mention of it is when he tells me that his best friend xxxxx "has got a brown face"

It's pure innocence and long may it continue. In the same vein, he says he is a boy, and he's not a girl, because he's got a "winky"!

Whilst they are young, let's just leave it as simple as that. It's quite disconcerting to think that in the next 5-7 years it's quite likely that he's going to be opened up in school to debates over "black/white/male/female/teapot/screwdriver/etc".... of course children need to be aware of issues but i think the feeling is that they are blown way out of proportion in the name of "equality".

When people are able to chose what defines them, it's a sad fact that it's open to abuse... i wonder what people who don't believe in male/female definition think about a convicted male rapist who identifies himself as female... should he be sent to an all-female prison so as not to infringe on his "human rights". For example.

And what would they think of the emergence of women's football in the last few years. Is that "dinosaur thinking".

I'm certainly not throwing any of the above issues or accusations at yourself.

Can't be arsed educating myself about something that I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever. If someone can't look between their legs and decide if they're male or female, then I worry for the future generations. And I'm not talking about being gay. That is something that has been in the forefront for decades and I would class as "feelings and emotions", something I can understand, but when a decision has to be made as to whether you are male or female as in "gender", geez!

Just to point out (someone may have already done so), if your looking between your legs to check that's biological sex and not gender. Gender is a sociological term to describe traits, not physical attributes. Now, of you said you were cisgender male then that is gender.

Derogatory ? I was a really sending up Houch with a bit of banter.
I've never ever shown anything but sympathy to anyone who is not comfortable with whom they are. The issue is, is it genuine or the product of a society where change may actually be encouraged.
Yes I do laugh a lot at surveys that ask you what gender you are and give you a dozen different choices because I wonder for what reason .
You can buy bikes specifically for male and female, but not really any other type. Is that wrong ?

No, because that is for the differences between the 2 biological sexes physically.

So if you’re genderless, you have no social or cultural ideas, identity, traits, attributes, etc.? What an existence.

You'll be stoning the gays soon.

Being a psychological/sociological thing and not physical, I'd assume that is where someone just wants to be considered as a person and not one or the other (in simplistic terms).

In fairness to Houch he's never said he hates gay people. He simply thinks that all these many, ever expanding categories is nonsense.

So a political statement then? Otherwise why not just androgynous?

But if we declare war and there is mass conscription you could stay at home and watch TV instead.

You are right that gender is about expression, but I could point you to scores of scientific literature that views gender as, in particular, phenological expression, not just sociological. The jury will be out for a very long time yet on which is the stronger influence. The admonishing side of me says the latter, the ex-academia in me says that given that we are moving towards a view that our thoughts and behaviours are 70% derived from the phenological expression of our genes, then perhaps I shouldn't be so hard on myself (or indeed, anybody else who might be to blame :))

You could say it's phenomenal.

Which toilet does a 9 year old child who has identified as a girl , having been born as a boy , use at school ?
Should that child have the right, money no object let's pretend, to their own specific washroom facilities, and therefore so should every other category of people.
Imagine a corridor full of toilets for different groups.
....then there's the symbols to put on the doors.
Its laughable.
You need to see the whole episode really, one of their classic ones:

There's a great episode of Law and Order SVU that is similar to this scenario: "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" Fallacy (TV Episode 2003) - IMDb

It's waaaaaay ahead of the curve, being aired in 2003 (when the show was at its peak before it became overblown nonsense). In this case, the male-to-female trans-who very much identifies as a woman, looks like a woman, just still has the penis-gets groped by her BF's drunken-pig brother at a party and kills him to stop him from revealing all to her partner, who doesn't know that she's pre-op. She initially claims that it was self defence before that all falls apart. She's very sympathetically portrayed (and very well acted by Katherine Moennig), but ultimately, she did the crime. There are no prisons for people who are pretty much bang halfway in transitioning, the law deciding that she's a man still as she's pre-op, despite the extensive hormone therapy and obvious femininity (her BF when finding out that she's trans claims that's impossible due to her boobs!). Needless to say, it doesn't go too well for her in Rikers...
