And Sunderland were paying Rodwell 70k a week in the championship

Worst case scenario and he doesn't sign, we have Jamie Allen - who is a quality player, and still young enough to improve, and Hamer on his way. Still leaves us time to strengthen if Callum is looking elsewhere (it will become fairly obvious, fairy quickly, so at least we won't be left having to do last minute stuff as a result)

Have you had a word then, Pete?

Its the business model they've used over the last few years to make the club sustainable. Get young players playing regularly and then sell one a season to cover the clubs losses and costs. We're getting game time from them and then profiting afterwards.

Loved watching O'Hare last year, and he's got a lot of potential, so I hope we make a decent bid for him, but he's not a make-or-break signing. He has a lot to prove - he's only a few months younger than both Jodi Jones and Brandon Mason, and has had less game time in L1 and above than either of them. If we went straight back down I have little doubt he'd become a standout player in L1, but to pin our hopes on him in the Championship is asking a lot of a player who went in and out of form at a lower level last year.

Yeah it does, and you can see why so many clubs are in trouble.
EFL wage cap comes in this season bcause of the damage COVID has caused so unless you are a Parachute payment club I would think 8 - 10K is the best that could be achieved and 3 - 8k at the average.

Only worrying thing is money talks, his agent will want him on the most money and the biggest signing on fee, let’s hope he chooses progression instead of cash as he’s already turned down villa who must have offered him a chunk

I think it's also important to remember that although he had a great impact on our team last season he made 11 of his 29 league appearances from the bench, that was at league 1 level.

He still has a lot of developing to do, he'll want starts in the Championship next season and I think we are one of a few teams that can almost guarantee that.

Although if a Preston offer him 5k a week more than we can he has a big decision to make. I don't see him rushing into a decision

I always felt he made more of an impact off the bench. That's not to say he didn't play well when he started, just that he seemed to be more involved in goals/assists when he didn't.

The box would suit him IMO, next to a Allen/Shipley type giving him more freedom.

About a month or so before Christmas when he was shunted out wide and struggling to get into the team at times. Once we moved him central he heated up again nicely.

Yep - forgot that bit, where we played him out of position and he didn't get as involved.

Agree, Allen and Ohare behind a lone striker is good for where we are aiming to be. I think Allen has the experience to help CoH improve and he will probably feel he has improvement left in his own game.

I await to be shot down with this, but I actually spoke to him last week, only in passing, I don't know him, but I asked if he was joining us next season, his immediate response was no! He did quickly back track and say he don't know what's happening yet, but I got the impression his first answer was his instinctive reaction and probably true! I really hope I'm wrong as he's one hell of a player. Met him a few times and he's a really nice lad, his brothers sound as well.

Agree with this. He was great last season, but he's not going to be a player who single handily keeps us up. Obviously want him to join, but hope we don't overspend on him.

We asked when we met Mr Boddy and Ms Seppalla and everyone can see he’s going to be an absolute star and it would be great if for a year or two he could be one of ours.

That’s a shame

We could be the best move for his career. Virtually guaranteed game time at a club that he knows and plays to his strengths. Second tier team, and doubt he'd play immediately any higher. Lives locally so wouldn't have to move. If he does well this year he knows we are the kind of club that will allow him to move to a bigger team if the right offer comes in.

The Villa journalist for The Athletic has said O’Hare wanted a new contract there but hasn’t been offered one. Also releasing Rushain Hepburn-Murphy

Pretty sure that waives any right to compensation. That only kicks in if he turns down an offer of a contract on the same or improved terms than he is currently on.

I reckon he'll keep his options open. He might even wait to see what happens with Villa's manager, as I reckon they might get rid of Smith

Wouldn’t be breaking the bank for him offer him a fair deal if he don’t fancy it we move on...

simple he wasn’t even a starter he was getting there but wasn’t like a Liam Walsh Dabo Kelly type of player no guarantee he will be upto it in the championship yet.

Thing is he’s a known quantity so less risk than a similar transfer. If you’re talking a couple of hundred thousand and not outrageous wages I’d definitely snap him up.

If he’s smart he will stick with a manager who knows how to get the best out of him a club that’s also local & where he I’ll flourish

Why do I feel like we are going to get our hopes up and then be disappointed. A bit like bright but without COH leading fans on

Me too tommo. I heard we were more than likely going to sign him and that the Hamer deal was done too.
Also that Dabo is out for 2 months and Rose 4 months both require surgery :(

I have heard all of this too but heard Dabo may be out for 6 months. Maybe Better Days can clarify.
