Cathedral Lanes so I could flatten it and landscape it.

Ive long had a dream of buying up most of Foleshill Road (I used to live just off it) and flattening everything from Eden Girls School up to the old Golden Eagle and building a park. Then the other side from the new estate to the row of terraced houses and building quality canal side residential.

I’ll do that instead.

Then invite everyone to a park opening party. With hookers and blow.

The canalside and canal basin are criminally under utilised.

Because they gave them some sort of conservation area status rather than thinking the things that work alongside canals now are completely different. It's far more residential/entertainment but saving the old buildings really hampers making an effective regeneration. Some of the buildings are being incorporated into new resi schemes which is good though.

Canal basin could be a smart little Brindley Place

Agree totally with the canalside residential. Ever since electric wharf went up I've been hoping for more like it, and the old depot is now resi I think. I guess it's a numbers game because quality resi is needed in Coventry to stop people moving to South Warks, but given the area it's going to hit the prices they can charge.

There was supposed to be a large park area near there with the Swanswell Initiative. Gutted that that never happened - would've really improved city centre accessibility and got rid of this sacred cow status of the elevated ringroad.

I think Foleshill is ripe for regeneration. Paragon Park is a big chunk, you’ve got industrial units all around that could be turned into decent estates and you’ve got the canal running through. Just needs some green space and before long it’s not such a bad area. Chicken and egg though.

I’m amazed Barrett’s didn’t buy up more land alongside the site they developed.

They did plan to at one point. A tapas bar opened there and the owner was told other businesses would follow but it never really happened.
Some of the properties they've built there are really nice but There's nothing round there in terms of bars or entertainment.

You're right, it could be a little Brindley place.

The problem with the canal basin is it’s so separated from the city centre, it’s not somewhere you’d amble along to on a night out really. That Tapas bar was great, I went there. There was a decent music venue at one point as well IIRC, but never more than one thing at a time so no footfall.

True. But if they developed it enough maybe it would be a standalone night out on its own.
I think that's a big problem when redeveloping, it can be very bitty and disjointed but There's never going to be enough money to develop everything.(not in a city like Coventry)
It's a fine balancing act.

It’s a continual issue isn’t it? Such a long list of projects that have failed to take off: canal basin, friargate, Belgrade plaza, CCS, just off the top of my head. Even Fargo isn’t great in all honesty.

It's frustrating. Just whenever we seem to be getting somewhere it all goes tits up.

It loomed like we'd hit the jackpot with city of culture but that will probably take a bit due to covid

So jealous! You will get so much love from this boy! He will be so happy! Well done Tony! I'm proud of you. Can we see some photos when you have him home?
Will do HH. Slightly disappointing news today that it’s all been delayed. He’s been rescued from a dog sanctuary in Spain and seems there was a delay in moving him to the U.K. so there isn’t time to get all his checks done for the weekend so it looks like we’re waiting another week. He’s in the U.K. now so it’s just vet checks and make sure he’s cat safe as we have cat’s. Fingers crossed for next weekend.

What would your dream purchase be, what would be top of your list? (not houses etc for family, something you have personally always wanted)

I would buy a Battle Of Britain Spitfire.
I've always wanted to buy my own private island.
Somewhere warm all year and not subject to tropical storms.
Of couse it would have to have at least one beach and an ample supply of tropical fruit growing on trees.
A few beautiful native girls wouldn't hurt either.

I’ve always liked the idea of owning a mansion in the Scottish highlands with oak beams , open fires well stocked wine cellar .

I'd move back and buy a nice country home somewhere in Warwickshire with enough land for my wife and her horses, build an off road track for bikes & 4x4's and still have enough room to exercise the dogs. A couple of season tickets at CCFC for my son & I and I'd be able to see my mates & brothers more than a couple of times per year & life would be good.

I would get one of these to use on my little farm/finca which would be located on either the slopes of mount vesuvius or the tramuntana mountains in mallorca.
I would use it to check on my donkeys and goats and to carry my aubergines and tomatoes.
If I was to choose vesuvius over tramuntana I would also have a bullet-proof AMG G wagon for when I wanted to pop in to town.

Right sod it I’m 6 bottles in

I’d buy the Ricoh stadium and Naming rights

I’d buy the land where that social club is re open the club and sort the land out put 2 full size pitches so a fans eleven and away fans could play each other . I’d also put a few 5 aside pitches in that could be used during the week .
I would access a local brewery to supply the alcohol for the stadium ,likewise a local catering firm for food .
I’d even try to incorporate a Coventry city bookies so any loses on bets go into the club

I’d also scour the polish , Romanian and Indian leagues for unearthed Players to tap into the community

Think we tried tapping the Indian league mate. Didn't go well.
I'm with you on the rest of it.

Agree entirely. Trouble is no-one wants to be the one taking the initial risk. It needs to be a massive overall redevelopment plan. Bet there be some complaining the area would lose it's 'feel' and be gentrified though.

Like I say above one or two thinks piecemeal isn't enough. It needs to be a concerted effort and masterplan for numerous things to happen all at once. Critical mass is everything.

The ring road is a big problem for it but they have got the plan for at level crossing etc which would help. It'd also help if it were more open and visible from the ring road side, but that would mean losing Leicester Row and people wouldn't like that.

I think the Coal Vaults run by the Tin Angel are still there but again not enough to make it a destination. Brindley Place works because it had the Symphony Hall/NIA to feed the businesses. A WAC style development would be great there IMO and would make it a destination for a night out - meal/drinks in a canalside restaurant/bar followed by a show. With WAC it's turn up, see the show, go home. Nothing else to do there.

The from there as it becomes more integrated you can spread further up the canal with residences etc.

But they decided making it a conservation area would be better :emoji_rolling_eyes:.

You can do the strafing run for the next Wasps game.

I'll be right behind you in the Lancaster, ready to drop the tins of sky blue paint.

I would apply for planning permission for a new ground and conference centre nearby and then give wasps the option to sell me the ricoh or it will be death by a thousand cuts as I undercut them on every conference etc or I would buy them and close them down.

We could then have a big bonfire and burn all their shit and then I could get on and develop the area and help in unseen ways I have no interest in owning our club imagine me doing the buying and selling of players:emoji_thinking:.

I would pay off Warwickshire cricket clubs debts on the proviso that they drop the Birmingham bears rubbish.

Suspect that when things start back up again the NEC will be doing just that and aggressively going after business. They're far better positioned to do that than the Ricoh.
