‘If’ we are promoted what do we need to compete in Championship? (1 Viewer)

If we were to go up I’d like to see us go after the likes of Jamie Paterson, James Collins or Marcus Harness.

I think a lot of clubs miss a trick in not signing players who (I think) grew up supporting the club that they play for. Money becomes (slightly) less of an issue and that extra 1% effort when the chips are down may be priceless in a scrap.

I get that these particular players above might not necessarily suit the system we play but having them in the squad to mix things up isn’t as crazy as it sounds.

Collins if relegated might come, the others are in and out of their sides.....
Harness is a City fan? Didn’t know that

Without O' Hare and Walsh we will definitely need to overhaul the front end of our team, however I am optimistic as Robin's will once again be ruthless. He recognised quickly that to progress further we needed to replace Doyle, Grimmer, Clarke-Harris......all important players who had made a contribution. Suspect there will be a fair degree of comings and goings. If we want to stay in the championship it will be necessary.

Villa have a player who’s 4 years younger playing in the same position in the same league as O’Hare. Their CEO said they want the best teenagers at their club and not to keep players who don’t have much of a chance who should be playing first team football elsewhere

Is he as good?

I quite like Harness, fast and is very direct.

I’d keep those in bold, sell/release the rest. Give Young another year as I thought I saw decent reports of him in U23s as he’s only 20.

I think MR still has hopes re Wakefield spoke well about him recently think he has had a longish injury but I suppose in the championship it’s a different market.

I want to see how Pask and Jobello do. Both have potential to be Championship players IMO but seen so little of them to properly judge.

Maybe a cheeky bid for Jordan Willis? :D

Pask is certainly our quickest central defender, (I do not see his main position as RWB), and hopefully he'll be good enough to replace McFadzean. At LWB, there's the possibility of signing Giles from Wolves - depends whether he did enough to impress Robins and whether Wolves want to loan him again, I suppose.

A bit of a long shot but if Preston end up promoted, we might have a chance of 10 Bags Bayliss back on loan for a season? I think he'd be a very good fit in our preferred midfield 3 formation vs. the 4-4-2 in his final season with us which didn't work for him.

Similarly Bristol City, might also have a chance of the big time - so Walsh for another year if that happens?

Bright back on the radar if O'Hare goes back to the Villa?

Lots of moving parts and once confirmation to the Championship is secured then it's going to be interesting to see what happens with the squad; Robins has always take the opportunity to remodel the squad and with a proven scouting team I'd have every confidence that he would build a team to hold our own next season.

Allen had great end and championship pedigree
Jones basically a new signing, Jobello to come back.
Need to hold Walsh, loan back McCallum.

Then additions for me is:
Replace Kelly. A loan striker from the prem, hopefully get lucky with a young Tammy Abraham type and then a solid experienced centre half proven at the level.

On that I think we'd be ok.
