‘If’ we are promoted what do we need to compete in Championship? (1 Viewer)

I think for left back we may look at Luke Garbutt who’s been on loan at Ipswich this season and is bizarrely still contracted to Everton at 27 until the end of the season

Not convinced by him defensively for a LB but if we stick with 3 at the back he could do a job at wing back. Good set piece taker too.

Wherever he goes he's going to take a hefty drop in pay, thought to be on £28k p/w at Everton.

At the moment these are the ones who could probably cut the mustard in the championship.

GK MM
LWB vacant
CB Rose
CB Hyam
CB vacant
RWB Dabo
Mid
Mid
Att Allen
Att Godden
Att

Will be interesting to test:

Jobello
Pask
Jones
Westbrooke
Biamou

The rest of the current squad I’m not sure will cut it.
I’m pretty sure we’d at least try with Kelly and Fadz as well. It may be that we need to upgrade, but in that case they’d be kept as cover.

IF we’re back at the Ricoh, I think if we can get off to a good start, we’ll have a catalyst for the return of fans. Good start and I think we’ll be averaging around 25k.
We might get that for one or two matches if we are pushing for the top six but in all honesty we are likely to get far less - 15,000 - 19000 for most matches.
25k we'll be lucky to get 2nd year in the premiership.

yeah keep as cover. But Kelly will be found out at Champ level. Kyle too slow at the back. But good squad players.

If we’re just throwing names out...

Heard about Ebou Adams the other day as he won an EFL Breakthrough Player of the Year award (along with Liam Walsh, might I add) and had a look at him as I’ve never heard of him before. Plays in centre midfield for Forest Green and from the highlight videos I’ve seen on YouTube he seems a pretty decent player. One year left on his deal at Forest Green but may be worth a look.

I think Kelly is being written off too early. If I was picking our player of the season I would now go for Walsh just pipping Kelly and Dabo. However, Kelly holds things together. He is always available for a pass and very rarely wastes it when he moves it on. I think he is a very clever player, always aware of what's going on around him. I know it was only two games, but him like the rest of the team certainly didn't look out of place against Blues. When he first arrived in League Two I didn't really see anything special or why Orient fans were so positive about him. Since the second half of that season he has been a revelation. As he has no time for sentiment, I am sure Robins will replace him if he sees that Kelly can't hack it. But I think he has a good chance of still being a regular next season if he can stay fit.

Good shout I like the bits of him I have seen

Just think he struggled with the pace against blues, I'd love him to establish himself in the championship though.

We need more pace at the back, I don't think Mason is Championship standard so would replace him,, obviously need to replace Walsh and O'Hare, Marcus Maddison is available for free from Peterborough. I'm not convinced on Shipley, but would give him a season, keep Godden as a back up, but sign at least one more striker. Baka, Hiwula, Kastaneer not good enough.

A lot of clubs will be suddenly be losing a hell of a lot of money, so I think a lot of talented players will be available cheap, may see fringe players being allowed to leave for nothing. Top end league one players will be looking to move on too depending on how the wage cap is bought in.

I've been impressed with Mo Eisa every time I've saw him.

Just on Mo Eisa. I have only seen him in spits and spats, and while he did score the late equaliser against us earlier this season, he was pretty ropey otherwise. He failed to make it in the Championship previously too, and I suspect Godden will score more in the Championship than he would, and is also a better fit for our team as a whole. I think we should only be looking to buy better than we already have. Ivan Toney though would be a different matter!!

Eisa played 22 Championship minutes for Bristol City. Like Walsh, he can’t/couldn’t get into their side but is good at League 1 level

To survive a few key additions, but to compete then a major overhaul.

Anyone else excited to see who we go for? Last few seasons it’s always been a good mix of Unknowns from lower down the pyramid, usually kids, Established players at that level, and loans from above.

Whenever it starts, next seasons going to be great (assuming we do go up, touch wood, etc)

Just looked through that released list and obviously don’t know most of the players but as it is a fore runner of what’s to come there’s going to be loads more and a lot of out of work footballers soon and some rich pickings out there to be had, I suspect it will be an interesting couple of months ahead.

I still have this feeling Robin's will get ryan Giles on a free.
I just think the whole getting him on loan was with a view to a perm move this summer. He left Shrewsbury where he was on loan and was doing a decent job there to join cov to sit on the bench . . Didnt make much sense by wolves to do that as
He was never going to get ahead of SamMc as he was settled into the system and the getting back on loan was always going to be part of his sale, he stated as much in his signing interview that he wanted to finish the task at cov.

I don’t think so - he’s contracted there until 2022 and has been on the bench for them in the Premier League as recently as January.

I never like to write players off before they have been step foot in the championship, I think quite a few will prove us wrong we just have to wait and see

He was on the bench as vinagre was carrying a knock and they needed cover but why not just send him back to shrews as he was guaranteed playing time there.
Having just looked back Robin's said he was a player within the recruitment process, so with us looking like we were going to end up championship bound back in jan I think I they have sent him to settle into team for a season long loan in the championship before his contract runs out in 2022

I’ve never heard of a player being sent to a team for six months to settle ahead of a loan spell. We also had Watson on loan from Reading who started one game. The team was on a good run and there was no reason to change it

Any young talented player released, I should think will seriously think about coming to us with the way we bring talent on, things could get very interesting and exciting

The recruit this summer was excellent. Yes a few signings didn’t work out like the angry Dutchman. Robins said they had players already identified and talking to them.

I think Giles chose us ahead of going back to Shrewsbury, probably would have expected some game time but McCallum was unshiftable

Looks great but you had better lend SISU about £5,000,000 if you want to see that line up

100 % Keep

Marosi
Rose
Hyam
Mcfafz
Dabo
Kelly
Godden
Allen

Maybe keep

Walsh if we can!
O hate if we can!
Baka or Biamou as a 3rd striker in squad
Mason as backup left back
Pask Drysdale for potential
Shipley been great in our success but can he step up to championship?
Westbrooke can he make the step up too?

Questions for robins but we have a good core to build around imo

Allen if we can? He is ours. Unless you meant Walsh?

If we were to go up I’d like to see us go after the likes of Jamie Paterson, James Collins or Marcus Harness.

I think a lot of clubs miss a trick in not signing players who (I think) grew up supporting the club that they play for. Money becomes (slightly) less of an issue and that extra 1% effort when the chips are down may be priceless in a scrap.

I get that these particular players above might not necessarily suit the system we play but having them in the squad to mix things up isn’t as crazy as it sounds.

Collins if relegated might come, the others are in and out of their sides.....
