Posh co-owner Stewart 'Randy' Thompson.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony suggested last week that a way out of the current impasse regarding how to finish the 2019-20 season was to have the third promotion place decided by an eight-team tournament. There have also been suggestion second-placed Rotherham United should also be involved given they are currently just three points clear of eighth-placed Wycombe Wanderers.

Thompson took to social media last night (May 18) to claim clubs shutting up shop for the rest of this season could impact on the 2020-21 campaign. He believes the EFL and other ruling bodies must make sure those clubs who rely on gate income to survive to be helped financially to avoid a big negative impact on next season.

Thompson said: “Every club has an agenda. Staying alive by shuttering is a real agenda. If the EFL want to solve the issue, we need to hear that agenda & embrace a mechanism that ensures the small clubs live and we all play ASAP. The Premier League and the Government could also help.

“I’m saying if all clubs knew they were financially safe, conversations on when/how to start and finish season/start new season would be easier for all the clubs. The decisions would have been made by now.

“We think we should be playing, but if the EFL wants to create solidarity, they are going to have to give the smaller clubs a reason not to shutter and furlough until July 2021.

“I remember when Simon Jordan mentioned the possibility of no football till the 21/22 sason and I thought how scary that scenario is. In League One, we are there. If teams won’t play behind closed doors now, they wont in September and I understand why when you stay alive with gate money.

“This solution (extended play-offs) is gaining legs with the ‘Top 10’ owners. I can totally understand why after Top 10 you don’t actually care. A play-off like this is way more fair than WPG or PPG.

“It’s an easier straight up formula because what do you weigh, home form, away form, league placing form etc etc?”

The EFL board are due to meet again tomorrow (May 20) with League One clubs expected to vote on how to conclude the 2019-20 season by the end of the week.

What does RANDY mean by top 10???
Never trust a man who is called Stewart but goes by the name Randy

How is the extended play off option in any way shape or form a fairer solution. You're advocating ripping up the rule book by giving clubs who realistically never would've made the play-offs a chance of achieving promotion, whilst simultaneously taking away that very same chance of promotion from those who genuinely deserve to be up there.

Nearly all these extended play-off options do seem to see us go automatically anyway, don't they?

We know the top 6 wouldn't want this scenario and they shouldn't be changing format three quarters the way through a season.

Personally I can't see this being as popular as Thompson is making out. Why would the likes of Portsmouth, Oxford, Fleetwood and Wycombe vote for an extended play-off when it realistically gives them less of a chance to achieve promotion?

Exactly, only hurting themselves if they go with the pufc plan.

Those in 3rd and 4th would have the same chance, it would still be 2 matches for them. It’s those that would be in 5th to 8th that would have less of a chance. And it’s mostly them making the fuss. I mean, that’s if they did the conference style play off anyway.

But this is my primary grievance with the reports coming from the Peterborough camp, whether it be from DM himself of the PUFC Co-Owner. It genuinely appears, from the outside looking in anyway, that they consider themselves all knowing and everyone else in the FL is mindless idiots that cannot think for themselves.

FL Chairmen are not stupid and no matter how DM et al try and package it, the proposals that the PUFC hierarchy continue to put forward are entirely self serving and help only the few, rather than the many. So, I think we'll find (or it's my hope rather) that DM is going to become incredibly exposed in tomorrow's meeting and his agenda will be highlighted as a point that is actually forfeiting sporting integrity, and as such the sour six will see sense and act in the best interests of themselves rather than pander to the monotonous rhetoric of that absolute bellend.

God knows what the format is going to be because apparently clubs as far down as Gillingham want in. It's a complete mess and the longer it continues to go on the messier it's going to get.

Reading that is quite sad. Obviously not everyone is in the position to donate but I hope those who can, do.
I will definitely not be asking for a penny back from my ST.

My opinion on Wimbledon fans went down quite a bit after the game at St Andrews though, all the homeless jokes, "you let your club die" etc. Fuck them.

Yeah, that WOULD be a nonsense. And I don’t think it’ll be seriously considered. It’s just some fat, red-faced pillock who shouldn’t be given the time of day.

That and they did something with their ground, like promise to give it back to Kingstonian when they moved to their new stadium and then completely screwed them over and sold it to someone else, or something like that.

Not been keeping up but reading some of these links, its just nuts.

However... I have yet to see one proposal which does not see us promoted without the need for some kind of mini tournament- that is unless the season is cancelled full stop or they decide to play the last 10 games... which seems impossible.

Is that right, that amongst these bunch of jokers, nobody has yet proposed something that sucks us into playoffs?

I think the majority (although one or two have made the odd comment), probably accept that we deserve to go up. Or in fact more likely, can't find a reasonable excuse to include us in their proposals given our form / points on the board.

ok ta- issue being that these individuals commenting we deserve to go up is unfortunately not the same as us actually being promoted... yet.. hence all the uncertainty, I get it.

The first thing the chair of the meeting needs to do straight away tomorrow should be a straight listen to me now and this is how it is happening and if the PUFC chap doesn’t like it then get off the line immediately and allow the clubs to decide for themselves what’s best for them. If he uses court action then forget it and don’t go down that route. No court will accept this going in front of a judge and the EFL lawyers will be all over this believe me. If the PUFC doesn’t like or wants to distract the others from a decision then get off the line now.

The league needs to do what’s best for the majority not just the minority (PUFC) we don’t live in a perfect/fair world at the moment. Bigger things going on with deaths and job losses at the moment. I should know I’m about to lose my job and this pathetic self centred bastard is pissing me off.

The threat of legal action I don't believe is a practical solution for PUFC as any court case would not be heard until the autumn and if the EFL lost, they would be given leave to appeal, so spring 2021 before that gets heard.
Therefore, it's a lot of bluster and the EFL will have insurance against any legal action brought, whilst PUFC will have to find the funds and in a long drawn out case they will probably need to sell Tomey to fund it!

Exactly, why would any team other than one that was out of the play offs but would now be in this expanded play off vote for it?

Way things are going it won't be long before someone suggests a tournament where all the clubs play each other, once at home and once away!
If Gillingham are in it they should play 10th, then the winner of that game plays 9th, then 8th etc. If Gillingham can go on a 10 game run than fair play to them but it’s ludicrous that they should have the same opportunity as Oxford.

interesting perspective from a manager who’s team is pushing for an extended playoff format. What is wrong with 4 teams?
Quote from Gillingam’s Evans.
It would be hard luck on some though, including Ipswich, who would miss out.

Evans added: “No big clubs can get a free wildcard, if you don’t have the points you’re not involved.”

Sky sports - Premier league testing

6 positive tests so far...can’t see any football resuming any time soon

Statistically there were always going to be positive tests. 6 out of 748 is about 0.8% which is probably how many people have it in the general population. As long as they self isolate they will still carry on - and remember it`s all members of staff so not 6 players.

The thing to get to used to is that as and when next season starts there will always be positive tests until and if a vaccine is found. It`s how the protocols are devised that will matter. I guess if all 6 are from the same club then you`ll have issues but I`m afraid it will be play on if you can minimise the risks or forget all football and sport until a cure is maybe found.

What about contract tracing and others isolating as they have been in contact with people

Isn't that the whole point in testing though, keep them away from team mates so no one else is infected. Think Germany had 10+ before continuing to play?

This would have been expected

That’s not been ratified & the FA are insisting on promotion and relegation. As the NGB the EFL are bound to adhere to that direction. Therefore, the format remains in place

Ironically the same FA voided much of non-league and cancelled promotion and relegation. There were teams already mathematically promoted that were denied that promotion. I don't trust them to do anything.
