EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted (4 Viewers)

A six team mini league ( for teams 3rd to 8th) would work and be done in 16 days - Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Wednesday, Sunday.
All teams play each other, so 5 games each. Final Sunday games played simultaneously. Could be done on 3 neutral grounds. Top placed team promoted.

I get the feeling Wycombe are not that bothered, going on Ainsworth's comments and the fact that they are not included in the "magic 6". It seems more important to them that they survive financially. It's a shame we can't play our game in hand against them, even if we lose it, it won't make any difference really to us, and if we were to beat them, it would shut Peterborough up as they would then make the playoffs.

so MacAnthony wants to completely change the EFL rules to suit his club?? It's top two promoted, next four are in the playoffs, winner goes up. I know it's not normal circumstances, but if he yaps on about "integrity" then the normal format should be adhered to. And if we weren't top, I'd fuckin want it extended too, but fuck it let them fight amongst themselves.

so because one or two people are shouting louder we abandon the conventional format of four teams competing in the play offs, nonsense. the format has to be the format agreed for league 2.

Really couldn't give a fuck what happens to the teams from 2nd-23rd.

The season is going to end now, either with 4x teams in play offs or this starange 8x teams in the play offs scenario. Let them fight amongst themselves.

I nominated my son for a donated season ticket on here at the start of the season. He received tickets for himself and his boys. If there's no more games to be played, I was just wondering if he could get a refund and have the beer money instead?

Fleetwood chairman has his mum and her fella in ICU through covid so he knows just had bad it is and he wants to put his players at risk of getting it just for the chance of promotion and some tv money in the championship

He's always been a grade A twat. Comparing us to Wycombe? Wycombe were miles clear in Nov /Dec not in fucking March with 9 games to go. Is he suggesting we'd go from being unstoppable to dropping to 8th with 9 games to go? Ni on impossible.

Fortunately ‘Phil Parkinson will have about as much say on the final decision as I will.

Nothing will be perfect but we are not in a perfect situation. If we were pushing with a late run, we would have want to be included somehow and cast doubt on other teams future games.

What i saw yesterday from Germany and have said for weeks though is that those teams that have nothing to play for will not bother in games so even if they did play them all, we would perhaps at best have 3 competitive matches, the others would be easy wins and we would be promoted.

Would be nice to finish and win it properly but happy to take promotion in any form, the team deserve the credit and will miss out on the celebrations they deserve.

Should I be worried about 4/5 teams relegation from next years championship now? Nope, in Robins we trust

Watched a fair bit yesterday and certainly levels of intensity etc were down.
Can see sides that are forced to play putting out weakened sides (although didn't help us against Bolton).

To be fair to MacAnthony he spoke well on friday on talksport and agreed that the top two should be promoted and the rest of the chasing group should be involved in a mini tournamount

So part of his case is that, by denying them a play-off place, one of their players will not have the chance to flourish in the league above and consequently they may lose out on a £25m transfer fee from a Prem team? What utter nonsense. His lawyer must be rubbing her hands together.

An Update From Chief Executive David Bottomley I suspect this reflects the view of all the 'smaller' clubs in L1.
Was nice to read about the dignity shown by Port Vale and Bradford in their vote. Shame MacAnthony isn't showing any. Happy for other clubs to go under just so his can try and get an unlikely promotion.

So flipping that, if we’re denied promotion from him - couldn’t we sue for £25 million because Godden would have flourished in the Championship?

Yeah, just a desperate grab for the limelight surely. I’d be amazed if a Court didn’t find that particular head of “damage” too remote from any breach on the part of EFL or any individual club(s).

It’s like me going after Boris because lockdown meant I couldn’t attend a job interview, which if I did I might of got the job, and if I got the job I might have been promoted to MD in the future....

A lot of what he’s saying is just posturing, he’s trying to carve out a way for his club to have a chance at promotion. He hasn’t undermined our position, as far as I know. I don’t blame him, in fact I respect him more for the fight he’s putting up. He’s got a point as well in that it’s so close that if they decide it one way his team are in the play offs and if they decide it another they aren’t. And they’re pretty similar ways! The league was tight (below us), I’d say a fair way would be the 6 team play off, Doncaster haven’t done enough and neither have Ipswich.

What I find more cringeworthy and sad is the small number of our fans pretty much brown nosing him.

2bf if Toney does score 20 goals Peterborough financially can turn down offers. In the pre-Covid 19 transfer window it’s feasible that someone like Watford, Burnley would pay 20 mil for a goalscorer.

his problem is the courts won’t take into account what if scenarios, and it’s already been said transfer prices are likely to crash due to worldwide financial issues football clubs are facing.

Personally if we go up and they don’t we could probably pick him up for 1 - 1.5 million

Every club has its limit - almost without exception. Accrington's is to be mid table in league 1 as thereafter they can't sustain it financially. Charlton's is a bit like ours - a good Championship position. You can look at most clubs and see roughly where they should be, and in most cases they are. There are occasional outliers in both directions, but these are getting fewer. Bournemouth are the main exception in the top flight - but they have a sugar daddy (see previous posts) - how sustainable is that?

I like seeing the City win, it makes Saturdays fun. I would rather they sat a little below their maximum point - which is 17th in the Prem all things being equal, so that at least they win or draw most weeks. Enjoying being stuffed by Chelsea et al is masochistic, however having watched the club since 1962, I have witnessed more than a few masochists around me. I do remember one chap at Brentford a few years ago - he was a candidate for apoplexy and yet he had spent 4 hours there and back for the right to shout angrily at his own team for 90 minutes. He'd absolutely love the Prem, but I left the game mystified.

Remember all this changes if City get a sugar daddy. It always mainly driven by money and the size of the supporter catchment area. It always has been.

Toney already said he wanted to move To the Championship so you know how that one will end - would be nice to have the GT force Godden and Toney !
