So, it seems the Pentagon has released footage of what could be some sort of 'aliens'. It seems like with Coronavirus going on that no one gives a shit.

I'm totally confused. What do people think? I have always had the belief that we would be naive to think we are the only life forms to infinity, but always been sceptical of the average sighting stories.

Weirdly, about half an hour ago a really strange looking aircraft with odd light patterns went over my house. I know a lot about planes and it definitely wasn't commercial (obviously there is a current lack of them anyway), potentially military but again not showing up on flight radar.

Maybe coronavirus is a hoax to keep us all inside whilst we fight off the aliens... I'll get my tin foil hat!

That supposedly 'just released' video was leaked back in 2009 I think. It has been on Youtube for years.
It shows nothing of interest, no detail.
It's odd that we can get crystal clear photos of the surface of Pluto (3.1 billion miles away), yet we can't get a claear image of a UFO in our own atmosphere.

I’ve got no doubt life exists...given the scale of opportunity it’s got to be almost statistically guaranteed . but do not believe for one minute they keep checking in on us. Why would they.... we are a tiny spec of insignificant dust found in a billion billion specs of dust....be like flying over to Oz to see what’s going on in an ants nest in the middle of the outback... and It’s probably a million times worse than that example but I’m lying in bed next to the Mrs who is snoring like a lorry driver and I m not clever enough to think of one.

This story hit the press 3 days ago and it's only just hit the forum. That's how mad the times we're living in are.

Yup. You are correct. Life definitely exists.

Forget UFO’s, I’m more interested in Covkids knowledge of snoring lorry drivers?!
Sleeping with a lorry driver was number 36 on my bucket list. Proper overrated IMHO. Despite being in his house he Insisted on me going outside and tapping on his front window to ask if he was interested in no strings sex while he was parked up, we then slept in a 4ft by 6ft box which he then hoofed me out of at 4am because Primark distribution centre opened at 6. Never again....

The pentagon has put ufo stories out for years. Typically to cover up sightings of a top secret plane. Planes like the blackbird existed for years flying missions before the plane became public knowledge. A common ufo story some decades ago would be people on small craft in the middle of oceans reporting seeing a flying triangle being escorted by US airforce jet planes, turned out it was the stealth bomber. Just no one in the public domain new it existed. Some of these sitings were made deliberately as a way of letting the Russians know that the US was ahead of them in the arms race, it was a game.
Russia has been making a lot of claims in the last year or so that they’ve made a stupidly fast plane that can be anywhere in the world from anywhere in the world in a stupidly low amount of time (don’t recall what exactly but it’s less than an hour) while claiming it’s also invisible to radar. I would guess that this is the US way of letting them know that they also have some tricks up their sleeves. I’d hazard a guess that the footage was taken in airspace that Russia monitors and the chaser plain isn’t invisible to radar whereas the top secret stupidly manoeuvrable plane being chased is, the Russians will know exactly where and when the footage is taken and now Russian boffins are trying to work out why they could only see the chase plane, why was the plane being chased so manoeuvrable and what was it’s propulsion system to make it so fast.
Just because the Cold War ended doesn’t mean that the arms race and associated games did.

If you make a documentary about that I'd watch it.

How do you think I know about it. There’s been a few on discovery. I watched one about 30 years ago about ufo sitings of a triangle being escorted, the conspiracy theory being that the US is in cahoots with aliens all backed up by some crank who insisted that video was alien technology and even the word video was an alien word. He claimed to have worked for the government in a technology exchange with aliens. Then some years later watched a documentary on the stealth bomber and they were talking about how it only usually flew at night when it was still a National secret but if it had to fly in daylight it would always be in open water, away from shipping lanes and under escort.

Was looking at this the other day but couldn’t get the videos to load on my phone.

Will say that UFO does not mean aliens. It means something they can’t identify that was flying. Could be military tech or something else.

My question is how come as cameras have got better and more prevalent why are the videos still blurry potato quality? Shouldn’t we be getting some 4K 120FPS footage about now?

I guess if the photos are purposely leaked, they don't want to give too much away.

Or the rednecks only have Nokia 5510s.

I read about this a while ago. The military claim to investigate up to the point where they're satisfied it's not an enemy aircraft.
Once they are the investigation ends apparently.

Christ, it really is like Napster.

After waiting about 10 minutes for a small file to download, the video is all blurry and I have no idea what it is.

I know a few years ago there was a thing about experimental ramjets/scramjets that could theoretically go something like Mach15. Saw a video of a test where it was attached to a normal jet to get it airborne and released. The thing shot off into the distance like the normal jet wasn't even moving. May well have moved on from there now.

Great. So if we do get contacted it'll likely be by the alien equivalent of an adenoidal speccy tank-top wearer. Better than Zarg the Destroyer I guess.

Without a doubt. And probably far more of it and closer to home than we realise. It'll just be microscopically small. Look at the wierd and wonderful animals/plants etc that live on this planet in the present day alone, let alone stuff that's long since extinct like dinosaurs and fungi the size of oak trees.

One thing I've wondered is that we're always looking for planets like our for life because it's the only one we know of that definitely supports life, so we've made an assumption that those are the conditions required for life.

But at some point all the building blocks for life on this planet would have just been floating around space until they coalesced together to form this planet, so the building blocks can survive deep space etc. Take tardigrades - we've frozen them to almost absolute zero and they've managed to survive.

Anyway, if they can survive deep space who's to say they then wouldn't evolve to survive the conditions on the host planet. For example on Titan they have seas and rain, just it's made up of methane instead of water. So who's to say that life couldn't evolve there that utilised methane in the same way life here evolved to utilise water?

Always wary when they release stuff like this - what is it that they really don't want you looking at. If politicians/military/intelligence tell you to look left, the best thing to do is look right.

Did you see something? Was it moving through the air? Do you know what it was?

If you answer yes to all three, congratulations - you've spotted a UFO.

To be fair some of those images of Pluto have been taken by probes passing 'relatively' close to it. And pluto isn't moving at the same speed (relative to the camera) as a UFO often is. Plus you don't have Chad from rural Tennessee as a cameraman.

To interact with us not only does alien life need to exist, it needs to exist at the same time as us.
When you consider the age of the earth (4.5 billion years) and how long during that time intelligent life has existed (c 250,000 years), that's not such a great probability.
About a 1 in 18,000 chance that anyone visiting us would find beings that could be described as remotely intelligent.
In addition, the beings visiting us might also have only existed for 1/18,000 of their planet's existence. That decreases the odds dramatically.
You'd also have to factor in how long intelligent life is likely to exist before it is extinguished.
That's a tough one since we have no example to base an estimate on. However, I'd say it's highly unlikely humans will exist on Earth in another 250,000 years.

We'll have either evolved into another species or wiped ourselves off the planet (I'm going for the latter). Or AI will have evolved to become the dominant 'species'

What I find mind-blowing is that when we see these distant planets so many millions of light years away we're seeing that planet as it was at the time of the dinosaurs. So any being that might be on that planet looking at us would be seeing dinosaurs roaming about, not us.

So that makes it even more unlikely to meet.

Also totally ignored by most sci-fi stories is that it's impossible to travel long distances at high speeds without also travelling forward in time. And the time travel is one way so you can never get back to the time period from which you started.

I've had that happen to me, I got on a plane and when I got there the time was different.
