His age, sex and weight will all be working against him at the moment, let's hope they're just keeping an extra keen eye on him

I read somewhere that Boris had problems with pneumonia in the past, is this true and how much bearing does this help with his fight?

I have never heard the Conservatives apologise for the state of british hospitals. For instance just 2 years ago my dad's final few hours were spent in a corridor, so I have a right to criticise Boris and conservatives laisse-faire attitude to this crisis and the NHS generally over last decade. No-one wants Boris to pass away but this situation is a leveller for us all. Most rational left leaning people want the extreme right wing finance driven toffs (eg. JRM) to show more compassion for the working classes. Maybe this is a wake-up call and we all need to realise we are in this together and for a successful country we need to work together better and support each other when we get through this.

Superb post.

Agreed NW. I think a lot on here have rightly said it’s more useful looking at the trends over a few days (On the other hand the media appear to react on a daily basis !!) In particular, confirmed cases and also hospital admissions (if/when the announce them). A downward trend here would hopefully eventually lead to a downward trend on fatalities in due course.

Fingers crossed it’s at least another stable(ish) day even if the fatality numbers aren’t necessarily decreasing

Just been speaking to a doctor at Milton Keynes hospital and he says they are starting to fill up. His major concern was that the age of patients was much younger than expected, including a 23 year old nurse. Pay attention youngsters!

Definitely. The way Raab kept repeating the line yesterday "he's in good spirits" it just felt like they were trying to spin it a bit, odd behaviour.

All the best to Mr Johnson, hope he makes a speedy recovery.

When you're Dominic Raab the best strategy when speaking in public is to take a short, simple statement and keep repeating it.
Otherwise you end up with a 'Dover' moment

Yeah I found Raab’s interview after the news broke quite telling.

Something else I'd forgotten about.

Remember when Boris joked that a push to source ventilators could be known as 'Operation Last Gasp'.

And before anyone starts, no that does not mean I want him to die ffs.

Today’s numbers will tell us
Not really as the deaths reported on one day can be many days old.

The new case count as a percentage of tests is the best matrix at the moment. The raw number of positive tests is likely to go up as the government t tries to ramp up testing
