Johnson in intensive care is mental, hope it’s just precautionary. Still can’t help but feel it’d be a last resort if they could avoid it. Here’s hoping he recovers quickly if for no other reason than Raab is in charge until then.

Yeah, I saw that idiot Peston saying it was only precautionary, being in hospital is the precaution, intensive care is what it is.

Don’t think you go into intensive care as a precaution, sadly.

Just watched the BBC video from an ICU.

That hit me harder more than I thought it would.

Sent from my I3113 using Tapatalk

It was the most surreal, horrible bit of live tv I’ve seen. Followed by the US version of it. The amount of professional people in intensive care was mind blowing and the dedication of everyone also.

They are not nice places at all, the staff are unbelievable, must have incredible mental strength or just become numb to it.

Kuenssberg also reporting it is precautionary.

ICU is what it says - intensive care. Not somewhere you tend to go as a precaution, and esp given the pressure on ICU's at the moment. Being PM I imagine he will be getting exceptionally good treatment but they wouldn't put him in an ICU bed unless it was necessary I don't think.

I was sceptical about whether he was using it to avoid scrutiny but I admit it looks like I was wrong.

Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

I don't buy it, you're talking about the most heavily impacted place in the country and they've got spare capacity in the ICU just in case somebody needs a ventilator, doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, hopefully he pulls through. I don't believe him to be a sociopath Tory like IDS, Raab, Patel et al.

I heard 50/50, but I may be wrong.

On a sample. Ref ventilators. Probably where the figures are from.

2249 admitted to ICU
346 Died. Approx 15%
344 Discharged. Approx 15%. ( my guess is they went back to the ward.).
1559 reported as still in Critical care. 70 % not on ventilators.

Trump was spectacularly unhinged today, claims he's personally speaking to the doctors treating boris

He's sent two great companies over, but they don't like to talk about it

I don’t understand a lot of this but I think this is the hospital he’s in, and they are getting ‘good outcomes’ from their ICU process which is what Boris will be going through now

I understand bits of it from recent experience, they're looking at blood oxygen and carbon dioxide levels basically

He's in one of the six ECMO centres in England as well (probably just a coincidence of location rather than necessarily a clinical need), that's where a machine takes over the function of the lung all together.

This is interesting, you get a lot of frothing about the government at national level turning away from Europe which may be true for the sake of playing silly political games, but this is a tweet from a consultant at Guys and St Thomas'
