I find the whole debate around the premier league players sensationalist reporting. Especially given that players are considered assets of the companies they serve and this places clubs in a difficult contractual position if the break their signed agreements.
In comparison we have the water companies asking to be allowed to default on their statutory responsibilities and looking for a financial bailout from the government.
These are the same private equity companies that have paid massive share holder dividends over the past 10+ years whilst saddling their companies with debt and failing to meet targets.
It’s a shame our press aren’t giving this more coverage as it’s worth billions to the country and you and I are paying for it!

The figures only refer to deaths in hospitals. I hope you’re right, but not sure we’ve seen the peak yet . There are reports of care homes being told not to send residents to hospital and only treat them there

About the furloughing in the UK, is it like here in that you can be placed on furlough for a certain percentage of time and then work as normal the rest?
At the moment I’m working from home as normal 50% of the time and the other 50% is paid by the government (80%).
Is that possible in the UK as well? Or is it you either work 100% of 0% but can furlough pay?

We have not yet peaked, the reported deaths aren't what happened on that day, they're just what has been reported that day. I think we'll get to mid April before we've peaked (being optimistic).

To be fair i did read an article (cant find the link now) which stated we are actually 7-10 days behind Italy and Spain not the 10-14 reported.
This due, mainly to the fact that we left our borders open, and the apparent lack of checks at airports, ferry terminals etc.
I am hoping, really hoping this is the case, if we can keep any death rate below 10k, although horrendous, then even the most ardant leftie would have to doff their cap to the government and scientists

Yeah the scheme has been in place since the start of the month and means businesses can keep some kind of activity going on.
Unfortunately a lot of small business owners I know in the UK are really really struggling at the moment.
It’s up to the business how much time each individual employee can work during the period and the time not work is paid by the government but 80% of salary.
The government have now done a law to address the issue with casual aka cash in hand/black money work and I think something like €600million in food vouchers.

I would venture to suggest that won't turn out to be true, however there is no point arguing as nobody knows for sure, its a little risky for any company to build in the assumptions you'll automatically qualify. If you have the cashflow to cover, why would you be given the cash at the potential expense of companies that can't- I don't think that is an unreasonable point for the govt to make. They will be asking companies to demonstrate why they cannot meet the expense themselves, that will be cashflow statement & management accounts.

I work for a company with 6000+ uk employees - some parts have loads of work - others have none
