Agreed - unfortunately though one avoidable death is one too many. I suppose however we'll never know what might have been pursuing other strategies to really critique the approach. Like you say and it was me that said, we have a key difference from the rest of Europe which does not appear to have been used to our advantage. We've also failed to isolate London when it has been very clear for a long time that it is the epicentre (as it would be with one of the busiest airports in the world).

Agree with all of that, in particular London.

I think ROS mate Cummings wanted London locked down 10 days ago !

ps I still haven’t heard a good explanation with TfL and the tubes. Bizarre that they have reduced numbers/stations but left it available for all. Either leave it running at full capacity, close it or reduce and only let key workers use it.

I'm at work at the weekend.
So far.

Just like a couple of weeks ago you were going to a football game.

We will still have idiots taking the piss. So stronger measures will have to be brought in. Could even be before the weekend.

Why won't you listen? I know you never do but how about trying it for once?
Why listen to someone who just making stuff up. They have closed non essential shops but lots of other not key workers will gave to go to work tomorrow. I personally know a couple whose offices are still open.

So basically you are bothering on about something that may or may not happen.

Now the middle class second homes lot are retreating to the countryside and likely spreading it to even quite separated communities. Though chances are it's absolutely everywhere by now anyway.

Once again there was nothing to say that.

When are you going to be right mate as I don't have all night.

I predicted to the day when schools would shut. I predicted within a day when pubs and restaurants were told to shut. I predicted ti the day that tonight's measures would be made.

How about you?

I was informed by work.
Were they informed by someone official or did they decide for themselves? Even the key worker list is vague. It says check with your employer! So those dick head bosses who are insisting people come in needlessly can continue to insist.

What's the point of telling people to do their shopping online if there's not the capacity to place an order. Surely they should have spoken to the supermarkets first and got this lined up.
They’d have 10 times as many vehicles on the road and still not meet the demand even if they ran 24/7.

Exactly. They've completely failed to get a grip on the problem. Just parroting that there's no shortages. So now they've told people to shop online, people will try to book and see no slots and head to the store to buy what they can.

Will have to wait and see but can easily see it being the same again tomorrow at the supermarkets.

What if you provide a service for a key worker that has to go to work?!
You are then a key worker. Just like those in warehouses and lorry drivers. They are needed to keep the grocery stores open.

This is the biggest thing. Of course now it will be impossible to ever know what difference it would have made.

Exactly Dave, either way. I’m not on here trying to defend the government so much as trying to get some to realise this isn’t just a load of stuff happening on the hoof. Yes, they had to accelerate the actions but these things have been in the pipeline for a while

Anyone who thinks you just come out with a food parcel delivery to the elderly idea overnight or flick a switch to be able to properly enforce what they are now proposing (and measures will get stronger) are wrong

New legislation has had to be passed, Im also aware that discussions between the government and the navy and army have been ongoing for some time. I know Macron wants the French (and some of us) to believe his Friday call with Johnson changed our strategy/measures but I don’t think that’s quite accurate

ps the protective gear for nhs mess and ventilators is another story and I am hoping both are belatedly being sorted, if not then the government will have questions to answer

Hopefully they publish something a bit clearer but even if they do expect there will be confusion tomorrow as not everyone will read something they stick up on a website.

No idea who told work.

Key worker is someone needed to keep supplies running/security of country/healthcare and everyone involved in it. Plus a bit more.

Agreed, really bizarre. Not sure what drove that decision, if it was purely about saving TFL money from not running empty trains it is bordering criminal.

There are no shortages. Just can't keep the shops stocked up because of panic buying. But there will be plenty more lorries available now to do deliveries. So it should now get better.

Well I've just started a week of nights at land rover. This company appears to be above the law. No production anymore ,just us off track area workers reparing cars to get them out the door. After 26 years here I know full well that senior management are a bunch of wankers but this takes it to another level.
Profit before health.

The French have just been given a bit more freedom. They are allowed to walk a kilometre from their house as long as they are alone. At least dogs can go further than 50 yards now.

They have just put the fine up for persistent offenders to €1,000. But still €135 for first offence and €335 for second offence. Allowed out of boundary alone for an hour maximum.

But Astute says you aren't allowed to go to work. Oh he is chatting whiff.
