Yes it will be worse in a month.

So by doing it now they're trying to limit how bad 'worse' will be.

It makes perfect sense to do it now, it was the only option they had.

Yes but if the aim now is to hide everybody away, when everybody steps outside their door in a month's time they will just catch it then.

Why now? In a month it will be even worse.

Lets end the fucking world and never leave the house.

Or mitigate as much as can be done now, and use the time to prepare the NHS properly to save as many lives as possible.

There’s plenty of scientific opinion both ways, but the vast majority of other European countries are taking stronger measures than our own government with regard to mass gatherings. Is there any reason why their scientific analysis should be worse than ours, even if you accept that Boris is following the science rather than the path of least resistance.

It’s also hard to blame footballers, managers, and stadium staff for wanting to protect themselves - the game isn’t more important than life and death, no matter what anyone says.

I don't understand why anyone is calling for it to be cancelled. How does that help anyone? So the season resumes whenever, there's a month of the efl season left that's all. At Xmas you play 5 games in 12 days, postpone til May or whatever then fucking get on with it

Ha. Meaningless game. We’ve had seasons that have been decided by February/March with mid table mediocrity. Guess he never went to any of those ones!

Has a point though, I wouldn't want a refund from CCFC at all but it deems the whole season meaningless if there is no outcome to it.

Which is why they have done it now in order to “lesson” the peak when it comes.

Unfortunate, but inevitable.

They being football administrators? Lessening the peak was not in their thoughts or is it their remit. They are free to make their decision, but the idea that the EFL are better qualified than leading virologists on managing the outbreak is mad.

I would expect if the league is made void by the EFL clubs would be entitled to refunds for multiple things. so would have to pass down. Costing the EFL billions.

No, not true. I can recall loads of amazing games which I look back at fondly but which took place in meaningless seasons. In fact I'd say I remember those matches more than where we finished.

Interestingly, I've just spoken to someone who is a relation of a board member at a fellow L1 club. Apparently this suspension was agreed last week but only announced today.

Also, 3 Championship clubs, are apparently in grave danger of not making it to the end of the season now due to lack of cash flow. This could actually create one or more 'Burys' by the time the season finishes.

Worrying times.

The FA and EFL will have to step in here and cover everything

It's obvious that all the clubs with nothing to gain this season will be calling for it to be cancelled. That doesn't mean that they will be listened to. I still think cancelling the season is the least likely option.

I don't either, the medical advice was it is safer to gave low risk events rather than disperse them to potentially higher risk events

So the club has to refund but still pay players and staff for their contracts without any money coming in? How many will go bust?

fucking fuckety fuck fuck fuck......following this club is a fucking curse.....can't fucking believe we were on course to be crowned champions for the 1st time in my fucking life (and i'm 48) and weve been fucked by a poxy virus....AAARRGGGHHHGH

...clearly there is no God.....but if there is....FUCK YOU GOD.....you utter c**t!
Think of it this way. We win promotion based on current tables, saving us having to watch our catastrophic implosion over the next few games as we let slip a golden opportunity...

There are no refunds that’s clear in clubs Ts and Cs

The EFL would have to cover costs. What ever happens its going to be messy. The simplest solution would be to end the season now. Rather that pussy foot around trying to make it look like they are doing something.

wonder if they could take as long as required to finish this season, start next season late and then do something like Scotland for next year where they split the league at a certain point and teams only play one game against the teams in their half after the split.
Not ideal and would still mean lost revenue but would mean being able to complete this season that is three quarters of the way through and would at least give teams the chance to budget for the reduced revenue the following season.

It's not going to happen though, the EFL don't have that money.

Imagine it for teams in the championship paying players tens of thousands a week.

Problem is if they cancel the season they will still have to pay. Extended it still have to pay. It really is a cluster fuck. Surprised the Tv companies aren't already demanding a refund.

Only thing that could save teams will be the money they receive for positions in league.

If they void the league then surely the positions won't be relevant?

As much as writing the season off would be a disaster for us I think it’s looking the most likely outcome. Let’s say this goes on for months as the government were saying last night, if you keep pushing games back you’ll eventually encroach on next season. Contracts will be expiring. Teams and fans will want a resolution just to know what’s going on. I assume at some point it will go to a vote in which case it probably suits most teams to write the season off.
