Championship - How do we stay up? (1 Viewer)

With the current bottom 3 (Charlton - Luton - Barnsley) being the same 3 that went up last season from League One I’m wondering what we need to change to have a chance of staying in The Championship next season.
If we could keep this seasons loans Walsh & OHare what do we need to change to compete next season?
The only weak link I can see would be Kelly who for me is not consistent enough however he has great leadership qualities within the squad. Do we need some back up for Godden perhaps.
I would love us to do a Sheffield Utd or Bournemouth and work our way up to the Premier League but for that we will surely need to make some changes to this wonderful team - maybe?
Thoughts?

We have a formation that is great in defensive terms. Thats all ready huge

We have to keep recruitment going and make sure we set our sights high as we are league above

We need to keep core than can make the dtep up so marosi 3 cbs dabo walsh o hare if possible

Elsewhere we neeed big rich and or best teams to go to prem so wba leeds ans fulham

We want likes if wycome fleetwood and donny to join us in champiknship so less competition to stay up

We have proven ourselves vs brum, it migjt not just be a season of survival. Neve rknow

But too early to havw this discussion!

Make sure we keep hold of Dabo and the 3 big defenders , replace McCallum hopefully from someone stepping up within the club , midfield will be a make or break for me next season , Walsh hard to replace , and the mythical 20+ championship goal scoring machine

Too early to talk about the Championship when we are not there yet...

However to answer your question at minimum we need to:

Keep Dabo
Sign Walsh on a perm (and O'Hare if Villa stay up)
New LWB to replace McCallum
1x New CBs
2x New CMs
1x New ST

Oh and get back to the Ricoh to fund the above!

don't change what we're doing just to try and stay up.
Robins is building an identity for the club. Keep that going, if it keeps us up, great, if not, so be it.

I don’t agree that’s it’s too early to talk about this - I’m sure Mark Robins and his staff are gearing up for it right now - they’ve probably identified players we need if we go up & identified different players if we were to stay in League 1 for another season.

We’ve put ourselves in a marvellous position, and we should see this through. But, we’ve still got a lot of football to play and we need to avoid a wobble like Rotherham.

There’ll be a lot of work to do if we get promoted. Recruitment depends on a few factors, namely where we’re playing next season.

Alluding to what Robins has said, the recruitment team have set out targets based on all the possibilities going into preseason. Whether we get promoted, or remain in L1 and whether we go back to the RICOH or remain at St Andrews. The type of planning we haven’t had before Robins.

@better days correct me if I’m wrong, but did you say we could see some investment if we achieved promotion?

I remember a story in the Telegraph a while ago about the guy in charge of recruitment. He basically said there’s 2 lists that he compiled at the beginning of the season in preparation for the next season. 1 list identifying players we’ll target if we’re in league 1 the next season and the other list with players they’ll target if we manage to get promoted. We’ll be prepared.

We need to open the wallet a bit to survive in the Championship - Barnsley spent a bit of cash and are bottom.

Yes - Chris Badlan head of recruitment - I remember that.
I’ve met him - he is like an encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to up and coming players.
He was at Norwich previously.

I wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 of them survive. Charlton 1 win away from jumping 4 places for example.

Luton and Barnsley arguably in better form than the teams immediately above them.

It's not a complete lost cause they will go down. They have a fighting chance still.

Dream land stuff.

Assuming P’boro don’t get promoted, they still want an absolute monster fee for him.
Hes 24? 10m maybe

Yeah i guess it is dreamland stuff actuslly lol

We prob have ceiling of 3m individual signing in chsmpionship

Still get the next tammy sbrham or foden on loan from prem and who knows how our season goes. We prob have good rep of of how we play now judgibg by podcasts and tv medis etc

Leon Clarke...Was generally thought of as never being able to do it in championship. He proved Most people wrong.

As for Toney...when Posh do sell him Newcastle get 25% of the fee. They will do well to replace him.

Step one: Actually get promotion in the first place.

These threads will look really silly if we don't get promoted. Calm your tits everyone.
We are going up - you know it - I know it - we all know it!
I’ve been to every game except Shrewsbury away & Bristol Rovers away and I’ve not seen us play with this degree of confidence for years - we are going up - Mark Robins is going to win Manager of the Month for Feb & the season and a Black cat is going to walk under a ladder.
I’m typing this with my umbrella open indoors - we are going up 100% so let’s talk about next season in The Championship!

They also let the core of their solid defence leave (GK and captain Davies, CBs Lindsay and Pinnock) plus their top goalscorer Kieffer Moore), not to mention their manager Daniel Stendel who was very popular with their fans but who was "pushed out" in mysterious circumstances half way through their first season in the Championship. We need to learn from this. We don't want to start our first season in the Championship without Marosi, McFadzean and Hyam (or Rose), and without Godden and Mark Robins too. You need to keep the core of your promotion team together, using players like Kelly, Shipley, Pask and Westbrooke as squad members at first, rather than automatic starters. Build on your strengths. Don't try to create a totally new team.

It’s time to embrace and enjoy these very special moments and season as a whole, it’s a once in a lifetime experience.
Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves and just enjoy.
