I sit in the block on the half way line, so similar to SBS66 I would think. Now I moan and complain at the referee during a game, I am biased, I am caught up in the game like most people. The referee last night I though was poor. However, there are lines that surely shouldn’t be crossed. My mate commented last night about some of those people and what they would be like in their everyday life, would they be as angry as that about other things that annoy them? Hopefully not. I think being in a football crowd makes some people feel they can do or say things that away from the football they probably wouldn’t do, maybe sometimes helped by too much drink.
You honestly think that it is acceptable to abuse someone, to threaten them because they have maybe got a few decisions wrong?

It is another reason to get out of this league, officials are dire. Weak and unfit. As mentioned, who the hell at the EFL, thought it a good idea to give this level of game to someone so inexperienced?

I thought the ref last night was very weak. He allowed players to be grappled, pushed, shirts to be pulled and did not keep up with play. In the first half we allowed them to bully us, but I saw a change in aggression levels from us in the second half so we could compete.
He wasn't helped by one of the assistants who missed a number of things.
In short, the ref wasn't of the level for that game last night.

The level of officials is appalling throughout football... and in the PL they have VAR to make decisions for them, equally as badly. How can Rugby get it so right and Football so wrong?!

I am 99% certain the ref pulled his card out for the Dabo tackle, but its not recorded anywhere. He probably forgot to write it down!

We were bullied for the most part but he allowed it to constantly happen he was an absolute Pussy !!!

Threaten them how? What can you possible say to a man 20 yards away with his back to you that is threatening? I'm going to burn down your shed mate? You're not giving any details. All I'm hearing is that some football fans gave the linesman some stick and used some choice language that perhaps you wouldn't have used yourself. Crossing the line? Fine, there are lines that shouldn't be crossed, but what lines were crossed? I'm missing something.

I didn’t hear any threats myself, just responding to what another poster said that he had heard. Because it is football anything goes? As far as you are concerned any type of abuse or insult can be used? Remember this is a bloke that you don’t know, has not offended you personally in anyway but has given some decisions you thing wrongly (but you like me are biased) against your team. It’s someone trying to do his best and possibly failing. It’s okay to hurl abuse at a guy trying to do his job? I certainly heard the linesman and the ref getting plenty of that. As I mentioned above I shout and grumble when decisions go against us, but you’re right, there is a line I wouldn’t cross.
I don’t think the ref had a good game. Was he just poor or did he have a bias against us? Hard to believe he just didn’t like sky blue so therefore I think most people would say he was honest, just not up to the task last night, perhaps the linesman too. Again, as I mentioned above, it must be a really tough job with players, managers, coaches in your ear and thousands of fans roaring their disapproval at you.
Without referees and linesmen, then there is no game. Would you like to officiate? I certainly wouldn’t.

I think certainly the ref was poor, but difficult to be too harsh on him, rather I'm totally miffed as to why the league put such an inexperienced ref in charge of such an important game. If anything last night's game warranted a top end championship ref.

There are few people around there who f and blind at every game .Completely unnecessary and if I had young kids I’d tell them to leave off but they are very agressive

I may be misremembering the Dabo incident. There was certainly uproar that the ref awarded a free kick, when it was just a fucking good tackle. I may have imagined the yellow. Apologies if i have misled anyone!

I'm not saying anything goes at all. But it has always been this way. I'm sure the individual will have run the line at Millwall at some point. I doubt he could hear many individual comments anyway, just a wall of noise. Just another day at the office. Officials at this level are used to it and are well protected and there is nothing wrong with making it a hostile environment for officials and opposition players. More of that please.

Referees at Sunday league level, I do wonder why they bother though. Some of the stuff that happens at those games is outrageous.

It’s marginal decisions - I’d hate VAR in any form. I remember the Coventry Palace game in the early 80’s when I witnessed the most laughable and inept decision ever but that’s the way it is

One of the reasons I can say with conviction that the refereeing in this league is piss poor, is that I am often just as incredulous about the decisions that go our way. I honestly believe the gap between the Prem and L1 is as big in terms of officiating as it is for standard of football - if not bigger. It is frustrating and often severely tarnishes the experience. Last night was dire. He seemed to be relishing what a fuckwit he was.

I still haven't been told what a chicken head is, so I'm not even going to ask about pegging, which I thought was a perfectly innocent, everyday domestic activity.

100%. A lot of moaning about a few marginal decisions that didn't affect the outcome of the game. I'm not really one to stand up for referees, there have been some laughable decisions and performances this season, but I really don't get last night. I think a lot of it is down to how on edge and anxious people felt so any decision that we didn't get was magnified. The O'Hare trip was never in a million years a penalty. The one where he was possibly pulled down, I would like to see a replay, it possibly could have been but also in my head I thought 'he's looking to go down here and win a penalty' the moment he was challenging for it, which of course I wish we had got but I am not convinced it should have been. The Dabo tackle, you see them given either way. People didn't like that Rotherham were bigger and stronger than us. It isn't my style of football but they were nowhere near the dirtiest side I've seen this season. The same people who moan about last nights ref will be the same people watching an English side v Barcelona and moan that Barcelona are too small and weak for the English sides. So in summary, we are basically, and as good as, Barcelona.

I sit with my 11 year old and there’s a bloke that sits directly behind us swearing his head off. I mean I swear, particularly at football, but I always try to temper it a bit if there are kids around. Unlike the bloke that sat behind us one week with a lad of a similar age to my son, who gave him explicit permission to use the f word because he was at the football. Sounds strange hearing a ten year old swearing like a trooper in public when their parents are with them.

Maybe I’m getting old!

Years ago at the Ricoh, there was a lad teaching his son to say c**t. His son was about 6.

Definitely wasn't booked which surprised me. If it was a foul (debatable) then it's a clear yellow card offence. Just sums up the ref tbf.

I agree to a point, but there’s still a line. Not sure many people would think it ok to sit at a concert and start calling all the staff that work there cunts, but it seems acceptable at football. I swear in daily life, I swear at the football to some degree, but if I had a family with small children sitting in front of me I wouldn’t be using the same language as I would in the terraces with a group of lads.

It’s just about having some consideration for those around you and understanding that some folk find some words a bit offensive IMO. My main problem is with dodgy refereeing decisions, sometimes the c word is inevitable!

Told my daughter from the off that the football is special circumstances and she will hear swearing. She’s fine with it and doesn’t repeat it, understands that adults use adult words in an adult environment.
