In the last few games he hasn’t been very effective down the left for us. Last night probably one of the most frustrating performances from him. Either he’s played a lot of games now and is burning out or just off form in general.

if you look at what Cafu offers us down the right we need a bit more of the same on the left. I think Giles could offer that.

same time the team is winning and keeping clean sheets so maybe best not to change things.

I agree said last night Sam has been playing quite poorly overall since Wycombe away where as cafu just puts in solid performances week after week.

I know which one I'd have spent 3 million on

He starts off very for me, usually is the stand out player that catches my eye first 15/20 mins, then just rapidly starts to fade. As the games gos on.

Thats still not me saying hes been bad. Hes nowhere near got the energy or fitness levels of Dabo. But still young. Its an unforgiving role, that hes taken too very well.

I wouldnt change it!

Before the transfer he seemed able to go past players easily and make a pass or get a cross in.
Last couple of games it hasn't really happened to often.
His energy is still good and he's defending well.

Probably not true but you can't help but wonder if someone at Norwich has had a quiet word in his ear that he should take it easy from now on

What happened to his long throws. Haven’t used them for a few games.

Do we pay him per long throw in and have used up all the budget.

Being overplayed now I fear. Needs to sit a few out. Don’t think it’s a lack of commitment, just a lack of that edge he previously had. Bring him out of the firing line for a couple matches.

Mind you, could probably do with him v Rochdale as Wilbraham will play that side.

Bit harsh for anyone to say he’s not as committed as he was/heads not in it. Young lad whos playing first full season in proper men’s football in a position that requires you to be up and down there pitch constantly (got a bit bulled last night but no shame in that against a tough team)

I actually said to a couple of mates last night that I was impressed with commitment post move (still getting stuck in etc). Up to Robins to rotate with a more than capable replacement if he sees a drop off in performance

Seriously? Do you think Robins wouldn't notice if Sam was taking it easy? Do you think that Robins would find that acceptable? More likely the natural fluctuations in form of a 19 year old in his first full season of league football. His performances recently haven't been poor, he just hasn't stood out as much in the last few games.

Not buying the lack of effort thing or heads in Norwich. But. If there’s any sign of that Robins will be the first to do something about it.

Doesn’t look to be at the same level he was at before the move defo give mason or Giles a run out McCallum also gets a rest his positional awareness last night at times was awful as was most of his passing.

He has had a great season and come on leaps and bounds. Yes he has had a couple of less effective games but hasn’t let himself or the side down. Perhaps he needs a couple games rest and robins will be looking at that but would any of you seriously want to change a side that has only lost 3 all season. Equally Kelly has had a run of poorer performances but whilst he is fit to play robins won’t change it and nor should he.

Just tried Google translate with this - and still don't understand !

Haha, I’m trying to say that some people have said that Mccallum’s heart is no longer in it and that his performances have declined because of the sale. They’d call that ‘doing a Maddison’ because they think he stopped trying after he left for Norwich. I disagree with both assessments

I was one of the people that suggested his performances have dropped off last 2 games. It was a bit of lazy annoyance from me to question his commitment though, could be a myriad of reasons for it - age, quantity of games played, maybe he's carrying a knock.

The wingbacks are absolutely key to the way we play, especially first half when the games are tighter and we become a lot more predictable if it's only one of the wingbacks getting forward consistently like it has been with Dabo in the last couple of games. Am sure Robins has got the stats though and will make a change if he feels it's required.

no they just nullified him going forward and that’s his primary asset - he still covered a lot of ground

I don't know how strong defensively Giles is though. Isn't he a more attacking player?

I know McCallum isn't great defensively, but he's definitely getting better.

I feel a bit sorry for Mason though. Presumably he'll be off in the summer now so we'll need to find two new left backs/wing backs.

I would have thought Mason would be staying as McCallum will be off. Unless he’s been written off now. All changes if (WHEN) we go up anyway. Better pool of players willing to sign for us.

He seems to be improving defensively but offers little going forwards. I’d like someone to confirm how many goals we’ve scored from his crosses this season if they can.

He has been off the boil the last few games.

I don’t think it’s due to a lack of commitment or his head being elsewhere, it’s more the fact he’s young, inexperienced and playing his first full season in L1; he’s bound to be inconsistent. Plus I wouldn’t have classed him as a game changer pre move anyway - he was a good player playing in a good team, he’s now dropped off slightly, but hasn’t gone from the best player to the worst player on the pitch.

I mentioned on the match thread last night that Southend is the game to change things. Especially with two equally adept, if not better, (if Giles reports are true) LWB’s available.

Agreed - the most dangerous Portsmouth player was up against him on our left side, and I thought Sam went into and won many 50/50 challenges wholeheartedly - in fact, I commented that if Norwich were watching, they might tell him not to be so keen....

It's rubbish, and just a typical theory people jump to for no reason except to convince others they actually have an understanding of football. McCallum has been off the boil for months now - which is why Giles has probably been brought in. Rather than his head being in Norwich it's more likely a case of him being overplayed and has now hit a rough patch. Something that isn't uncommon with young players. People seem to forget it's his first full season in the game - the vast majority of young players go off the boil at some point when first starting out. We've seen it plenty of times with our academy players at CCFC so I'm not sure why people are choosing to forget this basic knowledge and instead choose to spread conspiracy theories.

I can see McCallum being dropped for Southend. He both needs and deserves a rest.

I agree with the jist of your post but to say he has been off the boil for months is simply not so. Lets look at the facts rather than the supposition.
A premier league side has spent money based on his performances and potential in the past few months
Robins has picked him consistently over the past few months in a winning team, he chose him last night in a crucial game.
He has scored goals so is a threat more so than any defender and most of the midfielders.

Young lad, first proper season playing loads of games in mens football. A couple games out would do him good and we have Giles and Mason as back up. Freshen him up these next two and have him ready for the 6 pointers.
