If we get promoted? (1 Viewer)

As the title says "if we get promoted" surely we need to do some serious scouting for a or couple of forwards/strikers who can not only score goals, but also hold the ball up to bring other players into goal scoring chances? If we play the system we play now in the championship?
Personally I have no idea who that could be or how much such a player would cost, just wondering what people's thoughts are.
Another win ground out today, just shows how united this group of players are to never give up, and the self belief they must have as a squad, well played lads and I'm sure Portsmouth aren't looking forward to playing us. PUSB

To an extent magwitch it may well have been, only problem is that I can see is, robins being a forward, he does seem to pick some dud ones up or is being ill advised on this part of the team?

Kinda fits on topic but the logo really fits with what we are as a club
Elephant - strong, through ups and downs, always still here
Grypon - passionate, proud to be Coventry
Phoenix - together we will rise again
Weird building - we are Coventry

Is it still fountain or a series of water jets spurting from the ground.
I genuinely cannot remember.

I’m assuming they’ll already have 4 lists 2 for St Andrews and 2 for the Ricoh depending on which league we’re in. I have more faith that we’re better prepared these days

I would think a lot of that’s been done, I suspect there’s two wish for lists a championship one and a league 1 one.

4 wish lists.

Back home in the championship
Still in Brum in the championship
Back home in league 1
Still in Brum in league 1

Bonus wish list number 5. Poll from all the keyboard Peps on skybluestalk

Biamou was on for no idea scored a brilliant goal. Held the ball up immensely like he's he's always done.
Massively under rated player and non league level according to some. In the cup he was a menace when he came on in the first game and also the replay. He is a smart player and has 10 goals to his name in all competitions and has never been given a run of games. Not saying he is the answer but he would be effective due to his akward style and footballing brain that gets him into dangerous areas.

Not interested by alot including me.

For me he has the most natural talent. Ie he can manipulate a goal out of nothing will always try the spectacular.

Personally I’d get rid of the current strikers in the Championship, possibly keep Godden as a squad player.

We are going to have issues all over the pitch - we will have an impossible task if we are still in Birmingham

Like when we are in the Championship, struggling to pay Championship wages with no home of our own, better strikers will be our No 1 priority.............?

I think the following can play at lower mid table level

Marosi
Hyam
Dabo
Rose
Allen

Squad players

Kelly
Godden
Westbrooke

Lots of work to do.

Hope for a move back to the city and another good summer of recruitment

Sheffield Utd have shown that football is played on grass not paper. If money brought success Man Utd would be in the top 2 right now but there a mile away as they have squandered money on mercenary journeyman.
Smart investment and recruiting players with passion who give their all every week for the cause, along with a decent amount of skill is paramount.

We would need to add 4/5 very good players to the side to kick on again.

In the championship their wage bill was £20 million

If (and it’s a big if). We will need a fair few players.

There’s a big step up from
League one. Outside of the bottom 3 who (let’s assume) are going down. We will have to rely on picking up a lot of points at “home” v the bottom half teams.

QPR, middlesborough, Hull, stoke, reading, derby, Blackburn etc.

No easy games. Finishing 4th bottom would be a huge achievement in that first year (and that’s not even addressing the mess of us not playing in the city)

We need to not get relegated in that case

Yes our budget would be around £6m to £7m I would have thought which is the same as the likes of Burton and Rotherham who’s aim was to avoid relegation and now find themselves back in League 1 again
Agree with this but the ray of light for us is that the club's you highlight have attendances of about 8000 we could back in Coventry far exceed that. Especially given all the local derby games the championship could offer next season. Anyway want to keep feet on the ground and worry about that exciting problem next season if we need to.

Burton paid Championship wages with much smaller crowds than we'd get. Of course we'd struggle, but no reason we couldn't survive short term.
